Agoraphobia may seem like it can not be treated to anyone who is dealing with the disorder, but you could be surprised to learn that the success rate can actually be good, and its increasing as we discover more about this mental disorder.

Agoraphobic persons will experience strong fears of social situations, but agoraphobia is mostly described in two ways. One, a person will be afraid of getting out in public and then having an episode, and two, the actual surroundings of large spaces can intimidate the affected so much that it can trigger them into having an attack.Agoraphobic treatments are become increasingly effective as psychologists in particular have made a lot of fascinating discoveries as to what causes the disorder. There are many theories as to its origins, and many of them are very similar, though an exact match may be inconclusive. This does not really matter as alternate treatment, or a combination of alternative methods with medications have proven to have a knockout success rate.
How the treatment works
These treatments usually involve slow exposures to social situations. The process is known as Systematic Desensitization and it involves teaching a person various techniques to help control their breathing and response, which in turns helps them calm their fear gradually with practice. After this the patient is slowly taken through a series of increasing exposures to situations that may make them uncomfortable. Its important to note before continuing that panic attacks and anxiety share the same symptoms and treating general anxiety works the same way.
Cognitive Therapy
Another process that is used during treatment often times is called Cognitive therapy. This process is interlinked with Systematic Desensitization and involves helping the patient to identify and correct bad behaviors in belief. You may think of it as a way to correct negative thinking and reprogram the brain. For instance and as example, a person with high anxiety may have a thought like "my home could be burglarized at any moment", and it may be corrected and pointed out to them that they live in the country, own a large breed of dog, and have an alarm system, making the odds of them being burglarized slim to nothing.There many more methods that well support these two forms of treatment, which again are not uncommon to be used with one another. Considering that every individual is so different in their life's journey, it may be hard to determine at what point or how the state of becoming agoraphobic started, but as someone who suffered severely from this same problem, I can say that these treatments can work, have been known to work, and worked for me.
