    My college roommate always made pork, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut for New Years. She still does, as a matter of fact. My mom does black-eyed peas. Thanks for explaining the origins of these traditional foods. May you have a happy and prosperous 2012!

    Happy New Year! As for the things that have helped me through hangovers, it's been lots of water and fried food - chicken in particular. I don't know why, but fried food always seems to help the next day. Though if anyone is making New Year's resolutions, anything fried might be out of the question. Happy 2011!
