What is Aion
You play a pivotal role in the fate of Atreia, where flying takes on a completely new role and the enemy is not only the other player faction, but a deadly ancient evil as well.
Here are some distinctive aspects of Aion:
The World: Aion is set in a unique land where players explore the inside of a shattered world, separated into two halves with the Abyss between them.
Aerial Combat: No longer limited to two-dimensional combat on the ground, players in Aion can fly. Now think of online combat on a massive scale where attacks can come in any direction.
PvPvE: Players will be able to engage in intense raids and other encounters with computer opponents, not to mention the opposing player faction.
Classes: Players have a choice of four classes to start with, and can then move on to two more specialized classes once they attain a certain level of capability.
Character Customization: You can customize your character in a multitude of ways with a thorough character creation and crafting system, as well as detailed item customization options.

Factions
Elyos, Asmodian and Balaur
There are three major factions in Aion: the Elyos, often cosidered the "evil" faction, the Asmodian (the "good" ones), and Balaur.The first two are playable factions which you can choose when you're creating your characters. The Balaur are an "evil" NPC faction which you fight throughout the game, and you can not select them as a playable faction.
Character creation
The fun in Aion start with creating your character, believe it or not! There are dozens of different options when it comes to choosing your face, hair and body. It's extremely detailed and you can make thousands of various combinations.When creating your body, there are 12 sliders you can use to get different results (yes, there's one for female breast size too!). The face customization has 25 sliders. All that, plus various other options such as color make character creation and extremely versatile and fun tool!
Classes
There are four basic class archetypes in Aion, and each of them can further be customized on level 10 (so called Ascension), where you can get to specialize.The four main classes are:
1. Warrior
Warriors can further specialize into either a Gladiator or a Templar.
2. Mage
Mages can choose to be either Sorcerers or Spiritmasters.
3. Scout
Scouts can select to be an Assassin or a Ranger.
4. Priest
Priests can become Clerics or Chanters.
Aion graphics
Aion uses a modified version of the CryEngine (originally developed by Crytek, now owned by Ubisoft). Even if you haven't seen it in action before, Aion makes good use of high-quality textures and overall has a great feeling. Maps are colorful and nicely done, as well as models.Surprisingly, the game works quite well in crowded areas like capital cities. With up to 50 players around them, many players don't feel any drop in frames per second, which is a undoubtedly great news for those of you with low-end machines.
User interface
Also commonly known as "UI"
Even though Aion doesn't support various addons such as the ones found in other games, the interface is highly customizable and you'll certainly get used to it very soon.There are some minor quirks but most of it will be fixed with upcoming patches. Basically, pretty much everything you will need is right there and most of the interface doesn't even need much customization.
Just in case you're wondering, Aion's interface does of course support key bindings!
Leveling & Quests
As far as quests go, Aion isn't bringing many revolutionary elements. Most of the quests are simple and concise, asking you to either kill or deliver something. Even though you may have already seen plenty of those kinds of quests, there isn't much room to think of something completely new, is there?Leveling can sometimes be a bit confusing. At times it does seem like there aren't that many quests to complete and all you're left to do is grind mobs for experience, but that's usually not true. There's always alternatives, and I suggest you give these leveling guides a try if you run into those sorts of problems.
Items
Items are found in several quality levels: gray, white, green, blue and orange. Gray items are usually trash which can be sold to vendors, while the orange items are the best.Items can also gain levels (they get better stats), which is accomplished by enchantments. That's a great way to further customize your items, in addition to manastones and godstones. You can read more about those here if you wish.
In Aion there's also a great number of unique items, of which some are incredibly fun and attractive! For example, the character on the image here is wielding two carrots. You can see most of those in this unique items gallery.
Selling & buying items
Auction house and private stores
There's two popular ways of selling items in Aion: The Tower of Eternity. The first are the auction houses, which aren't a new concept and I'm sure you're familiar with them from other games. If not, it basically works like this: you put an item up for sale in the AH, and the highest bidder receives it. Kinda like Ebay, only in a game ;)The second way to sell is by setting up a private store. You can set up such a store pretty much anywhere, but you might have more success if you set it in a crowded location such as big cities. Basically, once you set up your private store players can walk to you and buy items straight from you. It's quite easy, and the best part is you can do it while you're away from your computer too!
Kinah
Kinah (sometimes also Qina, Qinah, Quina, Kina, ... ) is the Aion's main currency. It's used to purchase items, level professions, and gained by selling items to other players, killing monsters etc. Basically, it's the same thing as gold in other MMORPG games.There are several ways to make kinah in Aion, and while none of them is easy, all are effective and eventually you will earn enough kinah for whatever you need.
One of the most popular ways of making kinah is by doing repeatable quests. It's probably also the most boring one, next to grinding mobs for kinah. However, if you know the right places to grind or the high kinah yielding quest, it can be quite lucrative.
Another way to make kinah is by crafting items with your craft skills and selling them on the Auction House or by setting up your private store, but do note it will take some trial and error as well as research to figure out which items sell best and for what prices.
If you're looking for some advanced kinah making strategies for Aion I suggest checking out my review of this Aion Kinah Guide -- it has everything I just mentioned and more.
Combat
Combat is a bit more difficult than in other MMO games, but in my opinion that's a positive thing! You will spend more time killing mobs then in most games, but it only means you will get to use more abilites and it makes the game more fun and challenging, but not necessarily difficult. Monsters will often call reinforcements and generally the AI is better, which again is a good thing.As far as your abilities go, there are some interesting features. You can use combat chains (combo skills), meaning after you use a particular skills, a new and better one is available instead. It's not complicated to use at all, and gives more dynamic to the combat.
The abilities in Aion use mana points, as well as divine points. Divine Points are gained through dealing and taking damage (sort of like the warrior's rage bar in WoW). DP skills are very powerful, but it does take awhile for your DP bar to fill enough in order to use them. Note that if you die or log off, your DP bar goes to zero.
Professions
Crafting/production and gathering skills overview
In Aion, there are six different crafting skills: Alchemy, Armorsmithing, Cooking, Handicrafting, Sewing, and Weaponsmithing. In order to learn a craft, you must find that craft's expert from your race's major city and pay ~3,500 Kinah.The following are the prices to pay for each skill rank (might not be 100% accurate):
* Lesser = ~3,500 Kinah
* Regular = ~17,000 Kinah
* Greater = ~115,000 Kinah
* Expert = ~460,000 Kinah
* Master = ~1,500,000 Kinah
In addition to these crafting professions, there are also two gathering ones, which are automatically learned by all players.
In order to craft items with your crafting professions, you will need to gather the required ingredients with your gathering skills.
Do note that all players can learn all gathering and crafting skills and can level them up to skill 399, however each character can become a master at only one crafting skill
