Top 3 Ski Resorts In The French Alps
Air Charter To Val-d'Isère, Courchevel, and Chamonix,
If you are planning a skiing trip to the Alps one would normally have one of two options. Either you take a flight with your package tour operator or you drive down to the Alps yourself. However, both these options are not enjoyable.
If you go by car you waste precious time which could be better spent on the slopes rather than watching the bumper in front of you. Flying by air sardine is not much of an improvement. When you fly by package aircraft you might have to travel long distances before you actually reach the airport, you are likely to suffer delays because of security and there is a good chance that you luggage may get lost.
There is a third way - private jet charter to the Alps. The advantage of taking a private jet to the Alps is that you can fly from 300 plus local airports which means you don't waste time messing around travelling to the larger airports. Private air charter means you avoid all the long security queues. It also means your luggage will not get lost and your ski equipment is less likely to get damaged.
A Review Of The Val-d'Isere Ski Resort
Parts of Val-d'Isere are typical picture post card ski resorts with their traditional chalets but the Western area of Val-d'Isere is more high rise buildings. The skiing area, otherwise known as "l'Espace Killy", encompasses 140 plus runs that stretch to the adjoining town of Tignes.
Val-d'Isere offers both groomed slops and off-piste skiing. Watch out for the runs coming into town because some of the blue runs are closer to red runs. As one would expect the slopes are equipped with both gondolas and the small button chair lifts.
In the recent past you were able to do summer skiing on Glacier De Pissaillas but the glassier has retreated, possibly because of global warming. The snow here is excellent but in winter snow cannons are used on some slopes to help cope with the volume of traffic.
The Tignes boasts much of the same in terms of excellent runs. If you want to let loose you can go on the Tignes's wide "motorway" runs. You can catch the funicular to the Grande Motte glacier.
The Most Exclusive Place To Stay In Val-d'Isere
If you are not on a tight budget we would recommend the Les Barmes de l'Ours hotel, at the foot of the famous Bellevarde Olympic ski run, right by the main ski lifts. The hotel combines luxury with the traditional alpine chalet experience. All the rooms have state of the art entertainment, designer bath products and suites include both a bath and a Jacuzzi.
Val-d'Isère has a lively après-ski. There is a nice selection of pubs and clubs and you can catch a free bus that shuttles between Val-d'Isère and La Daille.

A Review Of The Courchevel Ski Resort
Courchevel refers to both a region and a number of towns. The towns were named after their altitude in meters: Courchevel 1300 (Le Praz - the original village), Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650 (Moriond), and Courchevel 1850. However, Courchevel 1850 is in reality only 1747 meters but it was named 1850 for marketing reasons to compete with Val d'Isere.
Courchevel is a world famous resort and rightly so, given its location at the Eastern end of the gargantuan ski area of Les Trois Vallées. It has 600 kilometres of piste which stretch from the Mont Blanc massif in the North to the Les Ecrins massif in the south. The breathtaking scenery includes views of Mont Blanc as well as views over the Swiss and Italian Alps. You can catch rapid ski lifts which take you to the top of the three valleys at Pointe de Thorens which stands at 3266 meters.
Being the largest linked ski area in the world, the Trois Vallée has 62 chairlifts, it boasts 27 green runs, 44 blue runs, 38 red runs and 10 black. To maintain all of the 119 pistes in immaculate condition there are there are 563 snow cannons and 26 piste-bashers. To keep down the risk of avalanche there are an incredible 65 gazex and 4 catex avalance-release systems.
A Luxurious Place To Stay In Courchevel
There are many great places to stay in Courchevel but if you want to pamper yourself one would recommend the Hotel de Charme les Airelles. The hotel is at Courchevel 1850 so you are at the best location to enjoy the Trois Vallées.
The lounge at Hotel de Charme les Airelles has a library and an open fire which sets the warm and relaxing ambience. There is a choice of four restaurants and you can use the Spa Vermont pour Les Airelles with its pool, sauna, hammam, whirlpools, and snow cave.
Courchevel Night Life
If you are looking for nightlife then the best spot for apres-ski in Courchevel 1850 is the Bar le Jump, Bar l'Equipe, Le Tremplin and Le Kalico. In Courchevel 1650 the bars of choice would be the Space Bar, Rocky's, the Bubble Bar or Moriond Lounge as the slopes close for a good party before dinner. In Courchevel 1550 the places to be for apres-ski are Barouf, Channossa or The Bar.
If you are interested in flying to Courchevel you will need to acquire an air taxi. Please contact Smarter Air Charter to find out what air charter services are available
Getting To Chamonix
If you are planning to go skiing at Chamonix you have one of two options of getting there. Either you take a flight with your package tour operator or you drive down to Chamonix yourself. Both these options are economic but not exactly enjoyable.
There is another path however.
Going to Chamonix by car will waste precious slope time. Not only will it take you about 12 hours but it will also lead to frustration as you hit traffic jams. If you go by a dodgy tour operator this is not much better than by going by car. Flying from the main international airports means you have to get to the airport at least two hours before departure. Once you get to the airport you will then have to stand in long queues for passport control and security clearance. Unfortunately your misery many not end there because once you arrive you may find that your baggage did not followed you.
Another way of getting to Chamonix is by private jet charter. If you go by private business jet you can depart from over 300 regional airports. You can also save time because you will be one of probably three in the queue for security rather than thousands. Rather then having to wait hours for you flight you can literally arrive 30 minutes before the flight. As you will also be arriving at a local airport at your destination this will again cut down your journey time. Add all these advantages and the bonus of luxury you soon realise that flying to Chamonix by private air charter is definitely an option worth considering.
A Review Of The Chamonix Ski Resort
Chamonix is made up of three areas. In the south there is Brévent/Flégère which has south-facing slopes and amazing views of the Mont-Blanc chain. The Grands Montets region has high altitude north-facing slopes that dominate the village of Argentière. At the top of the Chamonix valley is the Balme region, which has wide open areas that border Switzerland.
In terms of skiing Chamonix has a lot of variation on offer. There are long slopes, forest runs as well as beginner runs and off-piste runs for the more advanced. There are also three smaller valleys which offer an excellent area for kids and beginners. In contrast to this there is the Vallée Blanche in Chamonix which offers an off-piste ski route, 20km long with a vertical descent of 2700m. Some areas of the Vallée Blanche will require a qualified guide.
The Best Place To Stay In Town
If you get peckish going down the Vallée Blache you may wish to stop off half way down at the Requin Hut. When the snow is thin on the ground you can return to Chamonix using the train at the Montenvers train station.
If you are going to ski at Chamonix try the Les Granges d'en Haut. This is comprised of a number luxurious chalets nestled amongst mature trees with breathtaking views. A chalet takes up to eight guests. The facilities include concierge service, a public lounge, 120-seat restaurant and a 600m2 spa. Each chalet has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, three of which are en suite. The chalets also come with their own private sauna, a fully-equipped kitchen, a laundry room and a private balcony.
