Ear Pain and Pressure on Airplane Flights

Air Pressure Regulating Ear Plugs

When an airplane climbs or descends, the air pressure in the environment changes rapidly, and your eustachian tube doesn't react quickly enough.

The eustachian tube connects the middle ear with the nasopharynx, the upper throat area just above the palate, in the back of the nose.

An imbalance in the air pressure in the middle ear and air pressure in the environment prevents your eardrum from vibrating as it should. Air pressure regulation is the work of a narrow passage called the eustachian tube.

Swallowing or yawning activates muscles that open the eustachian tube and allow the middle ear to replenish its air supply, often eliminating the symptoms of ear pain and pressure. If your ears plug up despite this, hold your nose and blow forcibly to try to blow air up the eustachian tube into the middle ear (The valsalva maneuver). Sometimes these methods don't work and other help is required. Some of the successful methods people have used are featured here in this article.

You may experience similar problems in the ear while driving in the mountains. This pain and the memory of the pain may contribute to some fear of flying.

Everyone can relate to the discomfort of ear pressure. You might experience this while flying on an airplane or traveling on a fast moving elevator - especially when you have a cold or allergies.

The pressure on the eardrums and the related discomfort can be unbearable. Not to mention the reduction in hearing from the pressure on the eardrums and the potential for more serious problems if the pressure isn't relieved.

The ClearEar EarPopper delivers a safe, constant, regulated stream of air into the nasal cavity. During the moment of swallowing the air is diverted up the Eustachian tube clearing and ventilating the middle ear.

The EarPopper relieves negative ear pressure and allows any accumulated fluids to drain.
Currently being used in practitioners' offices around the world for helping relieve ear pressure and treating the problem at the source, the Eustachian tube.

The only clinically proven, FDA-cleared ear-popping device that is used and recommended by healthcare practitioners around the world. Fast, simple and completely safe as proven in numerous clinical studies.

I've never flown but my sister had terrible pain years ago when she flew. She loved everything except coming down. Some Russian soldiers told her to swallow and she did get some relief with that. She said that she can understand why children would cry so hard because the pain can be very bad. I'm glad there are solutions available.
