Lensography of Navy Lenses by Stargazer00
The US Navy has been protecting America since 1798 when Congress established the Department of the Navy. Since World War II the US Navy has been the most powerful navy in the world. The US Navy operates under the umbrella of the Department of Defense and includes the Marine Corps. In times of war it also includes the Coast Guard.
Why the Carriers?
The Carriers are important to the US Navy and the country.
Why the Carriers?
"The United States has become increasingly entwined in business and security issues with the rest of the world. Our economy and security depends upon our protecting our overseas interests as well as encouraging peace and stability around the globe. Forward presence by U.S. Navy aircraft carrier battle groups and amphibious ready groups helps us accomplish this. As former Secretary of Defense William Cohen stated: "If you don't have that forward deployed presence, you have less of a voice, less of an influence." The U.S. Navy is engaged. And engaged means being there."
This quote comes from US Navy Ships.

US Navy Aircraft Carrier, A Floating City
US Navy
There are many type of jobs on a carrier. It is very similar to a floating city of 5000 or 6000. It has its own post office and zip code. There are barber shops, doctors, dentists, mechanics, air traffic controllers and chaplains. The two nuclear power plants that provide steam and power are tended by specially trained "nukes." There is trash disposal, food service, a laundry and someone to unplug the toilets. All the vending machines are kept full by a special crew. Carriers have a contingent of Marines and there are the Naval Aviators that fly the planes. Each flight deck is 4.5 acres of sovereign US territory.

USS Constellation: From Frigate to Sloop of War

Built in Baltimore in 1797 under orders from President George Washington, USS Constellation is one of America's first warships, and according to this new study, remains the nation's oldest surviving warship. With the book's publication, wooden shipbuilding authority Geoffrey M. Footner believes he has put to rest a decades-old controversy among naval historians, the U.S. Navy, local governments, and various historic ship foundations. He argues that though greatly modified since built by David Stodder, the ship now berthed in Baltimore's Inner Harbor is indeed the original Constellation. His well-documented study offers what many believe to be the final word on Constellation's provenance.

Grade 5-8 Myers relates the illustrious history of our nation's last all-sail warship. He describes her original construction and launch in 1797 and early victories against the French frigate Insurgente and Barbary Coast pirates. He then details the mid-18th-century "repair" that transformed the ship into the "second" Constellation, a vessel that roamed the Atlantic to interdict the slave trade, saw Civil War action, and was finally used for training officers.
