Akai Hana originally had it's beginning located just around the corner in the Kenny Mall inside of a small 15 table establishment in 1986. The name then was Restaurant Japan. It moved to a larger location under the same name which seated 150 people. The decor and ambiance was an instant hit and soon became one of the top Japanese Restaurants in Columbus Ohio. Known for it's authentic Japanese sushi and traditional Japanese cuisine soon became a popular spot for locals including the university patrons and people from as far away as Marysville, Ohio and New Liberty Ohio that work at the Honda manufacturing plant.

The walls are decorated in warm wood and artwork. You will notice signed autographs from celebrities that have eaten here, especially the pro Japanese golfers who attend the Memorial Tournament Golf Tournament in Dublin, Ohio just a short drive away. Jumbo Ozaki has his name graced on the walls of Akai Hana still today along with a Japanese Opera singer Seiko Lee.

You won't find just Japanese patron's at this establishment since sushi has now become mainstream for the western palates. You will find young and old alike enjoying a meal that crosses all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
