AKA's The Ladies In My LIfe

This lens is about the members of the first black greek lettered sorority founded by African American women. I have had the pleasure of being taught(both in school and life)from many members of this honorable sorority. This is my way of saying thanks, and hopefully job well done.

Who Is That Behind The Shield

If you could be put back in time to the early 1900's you would find a dualistic state of the black experience. Slavery and its past scars wore heavy on the subconscious of many blacks. Although the scars of whips and chains painted sorrowful imagery in many minds, you would find the life of a black person was steeped more in hope and faith for better days ahead, than grief and animosity of past ills that affected them. In 1908 A group of college women, established a sisterhood dedicated to consciously cultivating and encouraging high scholastic and ethical standards of self-fulfillment through volunteer services at Howard University in D.C..The A.K.A. Sorority promotes unity and friendship among college women, and constantly strives to address problems concerning girls and women. In an age of such rampant racism these black women showed an abundance of bravery and solidarity by forming the first black greek sorority established by black women.

Michelle Obama AKA?

Is The First Lady Joining A First?

It took a while to be announced, but now it is official.Michelle Obama a.k.a. Shelli-O, is an A.K.A.! Michelle Obama is a what? Michelle Obama is now a sorority sister to women such as Star Jones, Phylicia Rashad, and Jada Pinkett Smith. During The Centennial Celebration for the sisters of A.K.A.(ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA),The First Lady was presented honorary membership. Founded in Washington D.C. at Howard University, A.K.A. is the first black female sorority. It seems fitting to have the first black first lady joining the first black sorority. Other Firsts in A.K.A. is the first black female astronaut, and since Eleanor Roosevelt(activist and wife of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt)was an honorary member making her the first first lady of A.K.A.;The New First Lady loses out on the first first lady to join Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She also made it known that her membership is non-exclusive due to the nature of her position as first lady. So maybe she will be the first first lady to join Delta Sigma Theta,or Sigma Gamma Rho.She Might even be the first first lady and person to join them all.
