The first American Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621, to commemorate the harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony. The colonists celebrated it as a traditional English harvest feast, to which they invited the local Wampanoag Indians.
George Washington was the first president to declare the holiday, in 1789.

Fun dog facts about German Shepherds 

**In 1928, Buddy, a German Shepherd, becomes the first Seeing Eye Dog.

**1907 - The first German Shepherd Dog exhibits in America.

**1908 - The first German Shepherd registers with the AKC - Horand von Grafrath.

**Average Litter Size: 8 puppies.

**According to S. Coren, the author of "The Intelligence of Dogs", The German Shepherd Dog ranks as the 3rd most intelligent dog breed of all, following behind the Border Collie and the Poodle.

**German Shepherds have over 225 million cell
receptors in their noses, making them ideal for
police work.

**The German Shepherd Dog has a unique stack or "pose" during show, featuring one rear leg under the body and one extended, as opposed to conventional "square" stacks (parallel front and rear) or extended stacks.

**Rin-Tin-Tin, a German Shepherd, is the most recognized dog in the world. Rin-Tin-Tin signed all 22 of his movie contracts with his pawprint.
