Just Go
It doesn't have enough Akon for me, but I shouldn't be so greedy now. Should I? Just Go is below and perhaps you'll enjoy it. As for the rest of this lens?
Well, I'm not a young hip-hoppity thing and yet I do like Akon. Everything I know about him tells me to run, run a away. I mean, come on now...KONVICT...with a K? SMACK THAT? And just who can be fooled by "I wanna love you"? I mean, those ain't the words...
And yet?
And yet...I do like his voice. I love the way he moves. I really do enjoy many of his songs. Ghetto and Mama Africa are two I totally dig. Hmm...probably show my age here.
So this lens is a dirty little secret of mine. It's like the candy bar you've got hidden behind your drawer. It's like the bubble bath you take when no one else is around. It's like having your Big Mac & large order of fries. I know it isn't good for me (yes, I do know that ain't isn't a word) and yet...
We all need a vice and this one is mine.
JUST GO

Three 6 Mafia
Three 6 Mafia (formerly Triple Six Mafia) is an Academy Award-winning American rap group originating from Memphis, Tennessee. Formed in 1991 by DJ Paul, Lord Infamous, and Juicy J, they shortly thereafter recruited fellow Memphian rappers Koopsta Knicca, Gangsta Boo, and Crunchy Black. The group also frequently collaborates with Project Pat (the brother of Juicy J). Their 2005 song, "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp", won Best Original Song at the 78th Academy Awards.
The group released their horrorcore debut underground album Smoked Out, Loced Out in 1994 through Prophet Entertainment, a record label they created but have since relinquished control over. Their musical style?which initially featured dark, menacing beats with equally gritty lyrics?has since moved to a more mainstream sound. The group has also had numerous lineup changes, and now consists only of original members DJ Paul, and Juicy J. Nonetheless, they have cultivated a sizeable and diverse cult following that has only increased since their Oscar win. They most recently released their ninth studio album Last 2 Walk on June 24, 2008. DJ Paul's new solo album Scale-A-Ton was released May 5, 2009, Juicy J's Solo Album Hustle Till I Die was released June 16, 2009 and released Lord Infamous's newest album After Sics(January 27, 2009)& releasing his new album Blood Money (July 28, 2009).

His name means what?!
Okay, on some sites you'll see a very, very long name for Akon. Don't buy that's his real name. If you see it, you'll know what I'm talking about...I don't belive that his name is that long. I think he was having some fun and is laughing all the way to the bank, as it were.
Several places on the internet say that it can't be his name because if it were it would mean something that no parent would name their child. Ever.
Enjoy the read. Just take it with a grain of salt.
Aliaune Thiam better known by his middle and stage name Akon ()Ingolo.com: Pronunciation of Akon., is an American R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, businessman, and philanthropist of Senegalese origin. He rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of "Locked Up? the first single from his debut album Trouble. His second album, Konvicted, earned him a Grammy Award nomination for the single "Smack That." He has since founded two record labels, Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution.
Akon often sings hooks for other artists and is currently accredited with over 180 guest appearances and 23 Billboard Hot 100 songs. He is the first solo artist to accomplish the feat of holding both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.Bronson, Fred. SENEGAL SINGERS
IOW: Does One's Birth PLace Really Matter
Throughout the internet there's debate on where Akon was actually born. Does it really matter? Many people I know, born in one place, identify with another.
From a personal perspective, it makes sense to me that his parents would have the kids born in the USA and travel back and forth. I'm from the States and now live in Canada. Added to that I've travelled to various places and the list includes Nigeria & Benin. In this May 2005 interview Akon tells VH1:
VH1: "You actually grew up in Senegal?"
Akon: "I grew up there but I was born in St. Louis. My mom and pop made sure we were all born in the States, that way we wouldn't have any immigration problems. We came here to go to school. Then in the summer we would go back to Senegal. Eventually, after high school, I ended up staying."
That probaly won't stop the debate as there is a St.Louis, Senegal. Whether it matters or not here are some other singers from Senegal and they are popular in their own way and perform throughout the world.
Perhaps you even recognize one or two...

My favorites...
Yet nowhere are the two, poverty & beauty, in such contrast as they are in Africa.
Ghetto
A ghetto is described as a "portion of a city in which members of a minority group live; especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure."ghetto - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
Africa
Africa is the world's second-largest and second most-populous continent, after Asia. At about 30.2 million km² (11.7 million sq mi) including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of the Earth's total surface area and 20.4% of the total land area.Sayre, April Pulley. (1999) Africa, Twenty-First Century Books. ISBN 0-7613-1367-2. With a billion people (as of 2009, see table) in 61 territories, it accounts for about 14.8% of the World's human population. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Not counting the disputed territory of Western Sahara, there are 53 countries, including Madagascar and various island groups, associated with the continent.
Africa, particularly central eastern Africa, is widely regarded within the scientific community to be the origin of humans and the Hominidae tree (great apes), as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors, as well as later ones that have been dated to around seven million years ago ? including Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis and H. ergaster ? with the earliest Homo sapiens (human) found in Ethiopia being dated to ca. 200,000 years ago.
Africa straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas; it is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones.
The Crowd Goes Wild
Akon To Take The Bait
IOW: What Do You Think Of Akon
Sorry, Blame It On Me
IOW: Shame On You? I'm So Confused. Anyone Else?
OKAY, so I guess this is where I admit that I live in a cave. Well, I don't actually live in a cave, per se. It just seems like it. Usually I just tell people I live in a bubble.
When I first heard this song I thought, "Man, oh man, Akon is in the doghouse with his wife." Then I saw the video and thought for sure he messed up. You know. Like a forgotten anniversary or something.
Of course, most who follow Akon or watch Entertainment Tonight or similiar show understood the Verizon/Stefani connection and the underage in 21 club connection.
I did get a chance to see the video on YouTube without sound. Without the sound and only seeing the portion I did it looks quite bad. Quite bad. If I hadn't seen some of the photos and newsbytes before the YouTube video I would've had different thoughts about the whole situation.
Like anything in life it depends on which part you get to see. If you saw only the roughest sections then your opinions about Akon and the club would be quite different from someone who saw the entire thing from beginning to end.
The reality is after viewing countless videos what Akon did at the club in Trinidad & Tobago isn't something new. He's done it before at many of his concerts. This time was different. Why? I'll leave that for you to discuss amongst yourselves.
Akon isn't the first, nor will he be the last, singer that used a song to apologize for something. Only thing is, even before knowing some of the things that went into the song you're left with the feeling "Was that an apology?"
It's obvious from the song, at least to me, that he's truly sorry for his actions, today and in the past, affecting Gwen Stefani, his mom, and his wife. Everything else though?
I Wanna Love You
IOW: Smack That!
Any closet Akon lovers out there? Anyone else that loves his voice...like in the Gwen Stefani Sweet Escape video? OR Are you more the SMACK Akon upside the head with a frozen mukluk type? Either way spread the love and let's hear from you.
