Al Gore - Environmental Activist

Gore was one of the first politicians to grasp the seriousness of climate change and to call for a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

His first book, Earth in the Balance, explains the world's ecological predicament and then went on to describe a range of policies to deal with the most pressing problems.

Earth in the Balance became the basis for An Inconvenient Truth, the best-selling book and the Academy Award Winning Documentary that have woken the world up to the issues surrounding global warming.

Al Gore's Challenge to the Nation - July 17, 2008

On July 17, 2008 at D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington D.C., Former Vice President Al Gore called for a "man on the moon" approach to the solving the problem of global warming. He challenged the nation to take bold steps towards solving the climate crisis.

In this historic speech he encouraged the United States switch all of the nation's electricity production to wind, solar and other carbon-free sources within 10 years.

This goal would not only help solve global warming but also the economic and natural security crises caused by dependence on fossil fuels.

According to Gore "The leading experts predict that we have less than 10 years to make dramatic changes in our global warming pollution lest we lose our ability to ever recover from this environmental crisis."

I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years.

Yes. He's a hero.

paperfacets says:

I hardily believe our world would be different if Al Gore had become President.
The election in 2000 was very sad. I compare Al Gore to John Adams in integrity
and openness. Al is a little more stoic. At times John Adams had trouble containing his passions. John Adams would have been very jealous of Al's hand's on roll of VP.

Tiddledeewinks says:

He's doing a great job for Mother Earth and if he would have run for president, I would have voted for him. Go Al!

No. I've got someone else in mind.

futurmajic says:

No, Al is a lost soul. God bless him! But lost or not he has helped to awaken people. There is no global warming as he describes it. But it has been warming since the last ice age. That is unless it has begun cooling. No one knows, there are big cycles and there are bigger cycles at all times.

futurmajic says:

I would like to add something, lost or not he has helped to awaken people. However global climatic cycles are natural and existed before man. It has been warming since the last ice age, that is unless it has already begun to cool. No one knows, there are big cycles and there are smaller cycles at all times.

futurmajic says:

No, I'm afraid Al is a lost soul, god bless him!

An Inconvenient Truth

Al Gore's Wake Up Message

You look at that river gently flowing by. You notice the leaves rustling with the wind. You hear the birds; you hear the tree frogs.

In the distance you hear a cow. You feel the grass. The mud gives a little bit on the river bank. It's quiet; it's peaceful.

And all of a sudden, it's a gear shift inside you. And it's like taking a deep breath and going, "Oh yeah, I forgot about this."

...Future generations may well have occasion to ask themselves, "What were our parents thinking? Why didn't they wake up when they had a chance?"

We have to hear that question from them, now.
