The longest dormancy period is 15 years for traveler's checks.

Of course unclaimed money can come from (but is not limited to) cash or property like cashiers checks, securities, stocks, safe deposit box contents, lost cash dividends, un-cashed money orders, unused gift certificates, unclaimed insurance benefits, court deposits, mineral royalty payments, dormant savings and checking accounts, found utility deposits, payroll checks, credits, and unclaimed security deposits.

Given the variety of properties that could be now classified as "unclaimed", it could take you a lifetime to physically track it down. Luckily, there's no need for you to fly all the way to Alaska to claim your lost money - just get on a computer with internet access and let your fingers do the work. Be warned though, as in many other places in the world, there are also a lot of unscrupulous people on the web out make a fast buck. They charge you per every single search, so it's easy to spend 20, 30 bucks and come-up with nothing.
