The Alaskan Malamute is a very clean and relatively odor free dog

Malamutes are quite fond of people, a trait that makes them particularly sought-after family dogs. Malamutes are nimble around furniture and smaller items, making them ideal house dogs, provided they get plenty of time outdoors meeting their considerable exercise requirements. If they are year-round outdoor dogs, letting them play in a baby pool filled with cold water in summer keeps them cool. In the winter, they love snow.

The majority of Malamutes are fairly quiet dogs, seldom barking like most other dog breeds. When a malamute does vocalize, more often than not they tend to "talk" by vocalizing a "woo woo" sound. They may howl like wolves or coyotes, and for the same reasons.

They should always be under leash control or fenced in. It is in their nature to run off.

The energetic canine described in this title is best known as a team-working sled dog, but he also makes a friendly and loyal pet.

I am owned by a Malamute - only mine is the giant breed and I have to say that this book is EXCELLENT and right on the mark. I loved the history of the breed as well as what I can expect. Yes, they are stubborn. Yes, they are pack animals, with the family as their pack and yes they do howl! The section on whether or not this dog is right for you was great! Not everyone can be owned by a Mal - and I thank the author for that!!

The information is precise and well researched and the pictures are absolutely beautiful. After being owned one of these gorgeous creatures, you won't want any other kind of dog!

I have the book lying out on my table and everyone always wants to look through it.

If you are a Mal owner - this is one great book to have!
