Appreciating your topic. Both are important but imagination works better with knowledge behind it for innovation and creative thinking that is value added.

What a great lens. I have one daughter who is very intelligent...gifted and talented program, straight A's, etc. I have another daughter who is wonderfully creative, good with her hands, etc. And she is smart in her own right. I believe a healthy mix of both imagination and intelligence is wonderful.

This topic certainly created some debate. Trust Montessori to create the opportunity.

    Love this lens!

A perfect debate topic. Every single one of Einstein's quotes could stand alone as the subject of a web page. Let's see... that should give you enough lens topics for the next 50 years! I love Albert Einstein and so I appreciated this feature. Very nicely conceived and presented. Thanks!

This question really boils down to the extent that thought is similar to what it describes, for the ability of thought to describe or reconfigure sensory experience is ultimately dependent upon the extent to which thought is similar to sensory experience. Thought is, ultimately, integrated and interactive with sensory experience (to a limited extent, of course). This is the source of our deepest genius, when thought is more broadly and narrowly like what it describes..

You most certainly need both. but i thin to push boundries you need imagination, you need the knowledge to understand what has happened , why it has happened and the imagination to see what could happen and how to get there. I love the wonders of the inknown.
  • TheoryofKnowledge Nov 19, 2011 @ 12:40 pm | delete
Excellent lens! I agree with Einstein, though I think he should have added something about PLAY...
  • ajgodinho Feb 17, 2011 @ 1:04 am | delete
Great debate ~ I think both are important and go hand-in-hand. Knowledge can produce imagination and imagination more knowledge. If I were to be asked to choose one over the other, I would prefer imagination over knowledge. :)

What fun -- great juxtaposition -- blessed by a SquidAngel!
  • fickledpen Jan 17, 2011 @ 10:07 am | delete
I just believe you need the imagination as the initial foundation. The imagination allows an individual to dream, and in doing so, enables that person to seek the knowledge necessary to make those dreams a reality. In truth, you definately cant have one without the other, an imagination without knowledge is just a dream, knowledge without imagination is just information.

    Terrific lens-loved it!
  • dryder Oct 2, 2010 @ 6:26 am | delete
    I think you need both.
  • emcueto Oct 1, 2010 @ 5:04 am | delete
I think that both are necessary but knowledge is just a little bit more important than imagination. This is because what we imagine is first based on something else, which is something that we already know.
  • drifter0658 Sep 21, 2010 @ 1:28 pm | delete
Without imagination, our knowledge would be very limited. Great debate!
  • Laddoo Sep 14, 2010 @ 9:30 am | delete
Imagination in my view would beat knowledge any day!
  • michael Sep 11, 2010 @ 9:34 am | delete
    KNOWLEDGE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN IMAGINATION;

"Good knowledge is better than life" O.Nwobu, for it is said "To deny oneself knowledge of the truth is to deny oneself a save life" O.Nwobu, and "an unsafe life is as good as a dead one".
"A Bird at hand is worth two in the bush". knowledge IS MORE important than imagination because imagination is a MERE EXTENSION of knowledge". can anyone who has no knowledge about something take up imagination about that thing? definitely NO!!!!!
  • bygproductions May 30, 2010 @ 3:55 pm | delete
I think both are important. You can have a great imagination, but if you don't have knowledge you won't be able to do anything worthwhile with the things you imagine.

This is a very interesting debate! It was really fun to read the opinions too. Angel Blessed and added to my Squid Angel Mouse Tracks lens.

Really interesting topic. Great debate. Great quote from a very knowledgeable man!
  • Varelli Oct 26, 2009 @ 9:05 am | delete
As I see it, both knowledge and imagination are the products of the same thing, which is thought. Which is limited! In this sense, imagination is not infinite, but rather a continuous reconfiguration of pieces of knowledge itself. Thus it only seems infinite! I believe that neither knowledge, nor imagination are signs of intelligence, but of the mere intellect. Intelligence is something else...

    Good lens!
  • Michael Aug 3, 2009 @ 10:59 am | delete
A wonderful quote, that seems so obvious, I would have never guessed such a debate, that people would actually choose knowledge. Even with lots of knowledge, no breakthrough, nothing visionary has been created or even discovered with it, that was not spawned in some way by imagination. I dare say even the knowledge itself wasn't acquired without imagination 95% of the time. In the 5% of time when it knocked us in the head like an apple falling from a tree (ahem), it was imagination that let to exploiting, developing and thus advancing that knowledge.

Knowledge and imagination are imported .

Imagination is the cornerstone of intelligence. Knowledge is what sets your imagination free.
  • ElizabethJeanAllen May 18, 2009 @ 6:25 pm | delete
Knowledge is important but an imagination will get you farther.

Interesting debate...I chose knowledge because I think imagination without the knowledge just wouldn't work...there's no debate, however, about this lens being worthy of a SquidAngel blessing from a brand-new SquidAngel!

Knowledge is most important but with out imagination is hard to use your knowledge.

Fantasic lens!! Imagination is more powerful than knowledge. What we believe about ourselves subconsciously is more powerful than want we think consciously.

I used this quote in my "Nurturing Imagination" lens and believe it's a great quote to remember, also a fabulous idea for this lens. Well done!

Imagination.Because I think imagination is the basis of knowledge.
  • Gaurang Feb 7, 2009 @ 5:19 am | delete
Imagination is the key even to science. man in the early stages was no scientist to discover fire..that explains it all. intelligence is a very subjective issue. imagination, stranger.
  • sandy Feb 5, 2009 @ 12:29 pm | delete
This is very much true in todays world where knowledge can be had by a simple google search but not imagination.

This lens is excellent, extremely thought provoking. The imagination is both boundless and inherent. Knowledge must be recorded over time. Every man-made thing in the human realm was formed by the imagination first; we build a picture first, form an idea, and everything flows out of that.
  • Aika Dec 10, 2008 @ 8:47 pm | delete
Very interesting lens. I can't decide whether which one is the answer. Sometimes, imagination is just imagination. :)

Wonderful Lens! Interesting questions. Does it take intelligence to comprehend imagination or the other way around? Keep up the lovely work! :-)

    yes,
Imagination is the most powerful of all the issues which a human being is bestowed. Without imagination would not have taken place. Imagination is the all powerful intution gifted by the Almighty. Knowledge is the essence of the Imagination. Imagination is the wisdom which is possessed by every human being. I strongly believe that Imagination is the only strong tool which we have by the Almighty.
