About Albert Hammond, Jr.

Albert Hammond Jr. is best known as the rhythm guitarist of The Strokes, but he's also a talented and successful solo artist. Born on April 9th, 1980 in Los Angeles, California, he was raised by the 70's musician Albert Hammond.

He is usually seen with a 1985 '70's reissue Olympic White Fender Stratocaster or Gibson Les Paul Jr. He holds his guitar much like Buddy Holly, one of his major musical influences. He says that this high horizontal position helps him to dance better.

His signature clothing style, which usually features 3 piece suits, dress shoes, and short pants makes him somewhat a fashion icon. In 2008, he designed a line of menswear with stylist Ilaria Urbinati.

Aside from his work in The Strokes, Albert has released two solo albums, Yours to Keep in 2006, and ¿Cómo Te Llama? in 2008.

After his breakup with model Agyness Denn in 2009, Albert went to rehab to quit drugs. Today he says that now he can actually be proud of good guitar work and appreciate the beauty of nature without the use of drugs.

Some interesting facts:
In an interview Albert Hammond, Jr. stated that he likes sitting around at home with his dogs and girlfriend. He also revealed his hatred for getting food poisoning on tour and throwing up in the bus.

Albert sings?

Most people know Albert Hammond, Jr. as the rhythm guitarist of The Strokes. Though he's an excellent guitarist and possibly the leading figure in the sound of the band, he also sings in his solo material.

What does he sound like?
Albert Hammond Jr. has a soft, scratchy voice. It brings an emotional, slightly sugary dimension to his songs which really complements the other instruments.

In my opinion the flaws that may appear in his voice add to what makes his solo albums special. It's raw and real, just as the music is straight from the heart.

With The Strokes

Rhythm guitarist

Albert is in my opinion the real guiding light behind the Strokes. Everything from the bands fashion, to the way that they sound is created by him. Though he doesn't write the lyrics or music, what would the band be without the rhythm guitar?
Watching Albert play the guitar is fun as well because his intensity combined with the high position he carries the guitar makes him look as though he's undergoing a medical emergency.

Do you miss Albert's hair?

In 2009, Albert Hammond, Jr. whacked off his signature fro. We don't know why he did it.

Real men have short hair.

I love the fro! It looked great.

I like the medium length the best.

I don't know why he cut off the afro... personally I miss it and wish he would grow it back. :)

Urban Dictionary Says:

Albert Hammond Jr is one of the two guitarists of the Strokes, basically the best band on earth. He plays a fender stratocaster and dresses in a fine suit most of time, and when not in a suit, he is still dressed very nicely.

Albert Hammond Jr. is probably my favorite member of The Strokes, and I like his solo music better than any other members. To tell you the truth, I like his solo music better than The Strokes music as a band. Very good lens! :D
