What Are Albino Fish?
How these albino fish come about is due to selective breeding and natural genetic changes. Every now and again there are mutations to genes. Some of these are beneficial while other changes such as albinism do not help the fish. When aquarium breeders notice these differences they can be reproduced by pairing related fish that may also hold the gene for albinism.
In a natural habitat an albino's life would be undesirable for several reasons. Firstly a white body makes for poor camouflage. Wild mutations will often be eaten before they get a chance to reproduce. Should they make it to adulthood the action of the sun can damage their albino skin and eyes leading to discomfort or premature death. In an indoor aquarium the albino fish fares much better.

Albino Axolotls
Axolotls
My mating axolotls :-)) , like little dancing dragons. The yellow albino is the female. If you want to keep some, please mind this if you want to keep them happy and healthy: never keep them alone (but no fish, except of e.g. guppies, others will hurt the lotls badly), buy a tank of at least 160 ltrs for max. 4 animals, many plants, make sure the temperature will never increase 23 °C (best is 16-20 °C,no heaters!), don´t use gravel of more than 3 millimeters in diameter (they can die of obstipation)and never add any chemicals for water treatment or fish medicine (causes bad damage to the organs)! If they get a skin fungus, what sometimes happens, treat them with black tea and mild iodine-free (!) salt water. If you are not sure, please visit a doctor who is familiar with amphibians. They deserve a good treatment, please don´t keep them just to impress friends...
