Education and children

Why do scientists not analyse precisely WHY politicians insist on providing an education to children and teenagers that will result in them being violent, lovers of violence and weapons?

Education is the No1 priority in my programme. It is on education that I pin my hope.

People should be educated to understand that there could be a different world, one without weapons. That is, no air-fighters, no warships, no tanks, no military schools, or military bases, no landmines, no grenades, no 'smart bombs'. Then, there would be no need to educate people into becoming nationalists, patriots, religious or ethnic bigots, fundamentalist zealots, loyalists. Only with such education, would hope and genuine belief in peace be as natural as breathing.

I write in my book, Dear Ahed.. The Game of War and a Path to Peace...about children and their education in both home and school to explain why we have wars

If I had 10 billion dollars, I would use them to educate the world, to stop the education of patriotism, nationalism and religious bigotry. To close all weapon factories and disband all Armed Forces, creating new jobs for all of the new un-employed.

Children, education and patriotism

Do we help our children by teaching them to admire war heros?

Human beings should have the RIGHT to an education that makes them humane, noble citizens who all respect human life. However, this education should be 100% lay and neutral. Theistic religions, ethnicity and patriotism are the seeds from which wars grow.

Description:
Dear Ahed is a collection of radical, compassionate essays interspersed with letters to a Palestinian, Ahed Hussein, who has suffered greatly from the effects of war. The author, who has spent much time in the conflict areas of the world, demonstrates that through education and understanding the way words are used, a society could be created free from war. Alberto Portugheis, who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 2008, explores how and why language is used to separate societies, control and antagonize people. He demonstrates how educated and talented writers, with the assistance of psychologists and scientists who have great expertise on "mind control", help politicians organise chaos, violence and wars as they use techniques to create fear in the population, so that they can offer protection. The book is dedicated to Ahed Hussein and to all people who are seeking Peace and Truth. This is the Peace Proposal the World is waiting for.

Children and Education

Patriotism

Children are brain-washed into a hero worship of Generals - men who led boys and girls, barely out of childhood - to fight for their country. This brain washing should have no part in education.

Are Memorials really for the good of the fallen?

Loading

Do Memorials perpetuate hatred?

Should young men and women be asked to fight 'old mens' wars'?

False heroes?

Should our children be taught to remember those who led men to war?

The squares and public buildings of the world are littered with statues, busts, and portraits of militarists that have won battles. Children are taught to admire them, with the idea that they will also wish to become heroes for their country.

A Child Poet's Longing for Peace

Hiraeth - Longing

I long for warmth,
To feel its reinvigorating glow
Spread through my bones
On a midwinter's eve, grey, grim.
I long for shelter,
A sanctuary, a safe haven,
To protect and shield me
From the harshest elements.

I long for unity,
To shatter the restrictions of colour, creed,
The binds of race and country
And bring everyone, everywhere together.
I long for peace,
To sever the insidious tentacles of strife,
To slay the dread beast of hate
And to the sow seeds of hope.

I long to belong,
To be the one with the pack
Not the terrified deer in their midst,
Not the outsider, the loner, the stray.
I long for forgiveness,
For a second chance
To right my wrongs and repent my sins,
To make amends, to start afresh.
To long is to be human -
To wish, to dream, to yearn.
Whether the all-consuming abyss
Or the constant flame of the eternal candle,
We must all make our choice.
