Albuquerque Firewood Costs Could Soar This Year

Last year was bitter cold in central and northern NM and the need for Albuquerque firewood really soared. I realize it is hotter than blue blazes right now, but before you know it, summer will be over and fall will be here and then winter will be upon us.

I know last year I waited too long to get firewood delivered. To put it nicely, my delay in getting around to buying firewood really cost me. I paid lots more than I would have if I hadn't waited so long to place my order. Why did I finally bite the bullet? Because it got cold and stayed cold and if you remember, New Mexico gas even ran out of gas to send to parts of the state.

The local stores sold out of electric heaters. Firewood was about the only game in town there toward the end of winter when all other heat supplies were limited on non existent. Needless to say, I will be stocked with quality seasoned firewood come this winter.

The Joys of Cutting Firewood

Enjoy Cutting Your Own New MexicoFirewood?

Cutting firewood in the southwest is really no different than cutting wood anyplace else in the country, it is a whole lot of work no matter where you do your cutting. Have you ever enjoyed cutting, hauling and stacking firewood? The idea of it is kinda fun.

However, in reality, like we've just said, most people would rather be beaten bloody than to spend the day cutting wood.

First, you have to drive to a place that allows firewood to be cut, and after these horrible fires in New Mexico this year, I don't know where those areas will be. However, let's assume you can drive within a reasonable distance to cut your Albuquerque firewood. Then you get to experience the manual labor of cutting the firewood, instead of lets say staying at home doing something that requires a bit less energy.

After wearing yourself out with the chainsaw and axe, you drive home to unload your day's work. Next, is a nice hot shower and then perhaps a day off work because you are too sore to move the next morning. Is cutting your own Albuquerque firewood really worth this type of aggravation?

Just Want Your Firewood Delivered?

Tips For Buying Albuquerque Firewood

If you think poking your eyeballs out with sharp objects might be more fun than doing all the manual labor of cutting and hauling your own Albuquerque firewood, you might want to consider having your firewood delivered.

If you want to have a good experience at buying firewood and having it delivered to your home, here are some tips that will make your experience a good one.

1. Know what size of firewood you need. Do you have a small kiva that will only take small logs? Or do you have a big honker that will take half a tree? Measure your fireplace or kiva, and have your firewood cut to fit your space.

2. What type of Albuquerque firewood do you want to burn, Pinion, Cedar, Pine or Oak? Pinion is the most expensive and Pine is the least with Oak and Cedar falling in the middle. Since pine is the least expensive of all Albuquerque firewood, why doesn't everyone buy it? Because it burns fast...real fast and in the blink of an eye all your wood is gone if all you bought was pine.

3. How much Albuquerque firewood do you need? A cord of wood is an actual measurement. The legal definition of a cord is 128 cubic feet, commonly stacked as 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet, which can be determined by multiplying the height by width by depth of a neatly stacked cord. Don't be confused terms like truckload, face cord, rack, piles or loose cord.

4. When do you need to buy Albuquerque firewood? The best time, of course, is before everyone starts ordering it. If your wait, you may not be able to get the type of wood you want and you may also have to wait to get the firewood you need.

5. What is Green firewood? Green firewood is difficult to burn. Buy your Albuquerque firewood early so that it is seasoned enough to burn.

6. Do you want it delivered and pitched or delivered and stacked? There will be a difference in price if you want it stacked rather than just dumped and pitched.

Helpful Tips From the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA)

How To Buy The Best Firewood

NMDA released this information for consumers based on the New Mexico Weights and Measures Law as it applies to the sale of Albuquerque firewood or any firewood sold in NM:

According to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, when buying wood the buyer should have it stacked and measured while the seller is present.

It is illegal to sell fuel wood in unspecified quantities such as load, truckload, face cord, rack, pile, or loose cord. If wood is sold by weight, the seller must declare the price per unit of weights and equivalent price per cord. This does not apply to fuel wood sold in packaged bundles of less than one hundred pounds, such as you might see sold at the super markets.

Each delivery of fuel wood must be accompanied by a receipt or invoice containing the name and address of the buyer and seller, the date of delivery, the quantity delivered, the identity of the commodity and the total selling price. If possible, when buy Albuquerque firewood, the buyer should get the seller's phone number and write down the license plate of the delivery vehicle.

Bundles of kindling wood or similar packages must be labeled with a statement of net content in terms of weight or measure. The label must include the name and place of business of the packager or distributor and a word or phrase identifying the product.

Whether you are purchasing Albuquerque firewood or wood from any other area in NM, these same rules apply.

What Is Your Experience With Albuquerque Firewood?

What is the best way to get a good deal on firewood? Should you buy it on the side of the road or from some company on the web? I have heard stories about people buying on the side of the road and not exactly getting their monies worth. However, I have also seen great deals on the side of the road.
