Alcohol Breath - What To Do

Morning Mouth After Partying...oh my!

Have you ever had bad breath after partying all night? Have you also noticed that your mouth is usually dry after some power partying? The main cause is that alcohol causes your mouth to dry out.

Here's the crazy part, your mouth doesn't care if it's wine, Jack Daniels or any alcohol based mouth wash. For example, I went upstairs and looked at my Listerine Natural Citrus Mouthwash and the alcohol percentage was 21.6%. Budweiser beer is only 5%.   Yeah, thats right, you can have the same effect using your mouthwash but without the headache. In both cases you end up with bad breath.

Why bad breath you ask? Well, we all have bacteria in our mouths and they love a good old fashioned alcohol dry mouth. They thrive in this condition and multiply fast. These bacteria guys decompose the food stuffs, etc in our mouth into sulfur compounds.  If you can remember from your chemistry class that sulfer smells like rotten eggs or the smell from a mill.  So now you're breathing out rotten eggs, oh my!

Understand the consquences of alcohol and bad breath. A night of fun for a day of having people avoid you.  And gargling with alcohol based mouthwash only makes matters worse.  Bummer!  Short term fun for really bad breath.
