Hypnosis Stopped Me Drinking
How A Skeptical Journalist Quit Alcohol With Hypnosis
In the main comment section of a recent edition of the Sunday Times there was a large editorial which was headed "A tot of hypnosis stopped me drinking"
In the article the journalist describes herself as skeptical when her doctor suggested hypnosis as an aid to controlling her alcohol intake.
Despite this she attended a hypnosis session and found that during her most tempting times such as Christmas and New Year she just didn't want an alcoholic drink.
Even when an alcoholic drink was given to her she ended her tipping the contents away.
She admits that she misses drink and there may be temptations ahead but right now she is enjoying success of a decision made and kept to.
For anyone to admit to having a drink problem is a major step in itself. To do so under the glare of such publicity is both courageous and inspiring in my view.
Causes of Alcohol Addiction, Alcohol Abuse and Binge Drinking
How did you start to abuse the use of alcohol?
The reasons why anyone becomes dependent in some form, on the consumation of alcohol are many and varied. However there are causes of alcoholic abuse that can be common to many drinkers.1) Habitual drinking - maybe you got into a regular Friday/Saturday night routine as a young man or woman. You drank because your friends did. To not drink would seem unsociable. Peer pressure, and wanting to feel part of something conspired to encourage you to drink to excess.
2) Crutch drinking - you used alcohol as a means of coping with some upsetting situation or emotion. The alcohol helped you relax and seemingly escape from worrying about that situation. Now you use alcohol for anything you feel uncomfortable with. It has become a crutch.
3) Addictive drinking - your drinking moved from being an occasional crutch or means of support, to needing to drink anytime of your day. It doesn't matter whether things are going well or not. You drink because your drinking has become an addiction and most of your thoughts are about your next drink.
One way or another you got the idea or perception in your head that alcohol will help you cope. It is a false perception as drinking only delays what you need to handle or deal with anyway.
There is only one way to recover and regain your confidence and self-respect and that is to do something about your drinking now.
Stop Alcoholic Drinking Tips
Some steps to bear in mind when ending alcohol abuse and addiction
Stop Drinking Tips
These alcoholic addiction help tips can assist your recovery:-
1) Recognise and accept that you might not be able to stop drinking successfully without help. There is no shame in asking for help. If you need it, then seek it out.
2) Try to remember the reasons and discover the possible causes for your drinking in the first place. If you know what started your alcoholic dependency and do something about it, you are increase your chances of staying clear of alcohol.
3) Make a plan of success. Write down your goals and the reasons why you want to limit or eliminate alcohol in your life. Being clear about why you are doing this will help you stick to your decision.
4) Don't make it harder for you than it needs to be. Don't have alcohol around you that can tempt you. Clear it all out and if necessary avoid situations that involve alcohol consumption for a while.
5) Persistence does pay off. Don't give up giving up. You will get there and many people have down the same before you so it is possible.
6) If you trip up, ask yourself "what can I learn from this?" Then get going again.
7) Make a friend of water. Don't mistake thirst for a craving for alcohol.
8) Say "no" to temptation. If you know certain friends are going to tempt back to abusive use of alcohol don't mix with them. Ask yourself "would good friends help or hinder what I have chosen to do?"

Alcohol and Depression
How Alcohol Reinforces Depression
To escape the depressed feelings, and often in an attempt to numb feelings, a person turns to drink. Alcoholic drink provides a short-term respite from depression by helping bring a state of relaxation.
Unfortunately, alcohol is also a depressive, and a few hours later, the depressed feelings return together with a sense of guilt or shame at having used alcohol in this way.
It becomes in effect a vicious circle of the depression leading to drink as a form of escape which then leads to depressed feelings again.
The good news is that you are not the first person to go through this cycle and find a way out of it. Your first step is to admit what is happening to yourself and then seek the support of someone you trust.
Alcohol Wikipedia
Alcoholism has multiple and sometimes conflicting definitions. In common and historic usage, alcoholism is any condition that results in the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, despite health problems and negative social consequences. Modern medical definitions The American Medical Association "Definitions" describe alcoholism as a disease and addiction which results in a persistent use of alcohol despite negative consequences. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, alcoholism, also referred to as dipsomaniawww.dictionary.com,Definition: dipsomania described a preoccupation with, or compulsion toward the consumption of, alcohol and/or an impaired ability to recognize the negative effects of excessive alcohol consumption.
Although not all of these definitions specify current and on-going use of alcohol as a qualifier for alcoholism, some do, as well as remarking on the long-term effects of consistent, heavy alcohol use, including dependence and symptoms of withdrawal.
While the ingestion of alcohol is, by definition, necessary to develop alcoholism, the use of alcohol does not predict the development of alcoholism. The quantity, frequency and regularity of alcohol consumption required to develop alcoholism varies greatly from person to person. In addition, although the biological mechanisms underpinning alcoholism are uncertain, some risk factors, including social environment, stress, mental health, genetic predisposition, age, ethnicity and gender have been identified. Also, studies indicate that the proportion of men with alcohol dependence is higher than the proportion of women, 7% and 2.5% respectively, although women are more vulnerable to long-term consequences of alcoholism. Around 90% of adults in United States consume alcohol, and more than 700,000 of them are treated daily for alcoholism. Professor David Zaridze, who led the international research team, calculated that alcohol had killed three million Russians since 1987.Vodka kills as many Russians as a war, says report in The Lancet. Times Online. June 27, 2009.

Do You Have A Drink Problem?
Depression and drink dependency
A good friend, relative or partner will tell you the truth. Dare you ask them?
Depression often goes hand-in-hand with a drink dependency. In fact although alcohol can help you feel more relaxed, it also has a depressive, quality to it.
Most drinkers drink to numb the feelings that they don't like. Alcohol helps to provide that numbness but this is a short-termed escape and the feelings return unless the cause is dealt with.
Sometimes alcoholism has become a learnt response to dealing with difficult events. Maybe you were aware that a parent always used to drink to cope with nerves and anxiety. You, as a child could have picked up this response to dealing with difficult situations from that parent. In effect it has become a learnt response.
Why Do People Get Addicted?
The Addiction Trap
The answer often lies in a life problem, challenge or issue that the future addict finds difficult to cope with.
For example a man who has broken up from his partner may feel he is unable to cope with this loss. He may turn to something which help him to relax. Something that may also help him forget or escape from the intense feelings of a broken heart.
Alcohol may seem to offer these benefits. Temporary and short-term use may not do any harm. It is when alcohol is used more often and in larger quantities that the support that alcohol seemed to provide becomes a trap.
He may find he begins to use alcohol to cope with any life challenge even though he may have moved on and found someone else to love.
The addiction bit is the belief that life cannot be coped with, or managed without the aid of drink.

- I have a client who has dependent on alcohol since the death of his father and brother a few years ago. I tapped on him and used the set up phrase: Even though I feel very lonely after my brother's and father's deaths. He said he felt liberated after the session. I invited him for the EFT training as well as to download the eft training manual.

- Great lens you have here. Giving up an addiction, like alcohol, can be a challenge, even with application of natural methods learned from EFT training. Sometimes, though, we get surprisingly fast results.
EFT usually gets rid of immediate cravings for sweets, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc in short order. When that doesn't happen, there is almost always a deeper issue behind the craving.
