Alcoholics can be treated, but the treatment again is varied. Medical treatment usually involves prescription drugs and may cause prescription drug abuse in some patients. Most treatments involve abrupt suspension of any and all alcohol intake. During this period the patient is exposed to life training, like yoga lessons and other rehab exercises. Since alcoholism is also a psychological problem, it should be addressed from that angle also. In fact there are multiple vertices that led to abuse, that need to taken care of while treating alcoholism, this may prevent a relapse. Detoxification is often used, followed by some sort of life support therapy, like group therapy. Usually no tolerance based approaches to treatment are the based, as compared to slab based reduction treatments.
