Alexandra Palace
Alexandra Palace in Muswell Hill, North London is impressive in its re-built Victorian vastness...the history of the Palace is no less impressive.
Because it sits atop a hill, Alexandra Palace can be seen from various places in North London.
It sometimes seem to pop into conscious view out of nowhere...you look up and it's suddenly there, leaving you puzzled as to why you've never noticed it before...it's beauty and its vastness is often missed...it just seems not to have registered its presence until its acknowledged...
Once Alexandra Palace has been pointed out to you, it becomes unforgettable...you will find yourself instinctively searching for it...looking up searchingly from trains, parks, in between gaps in houses on streets, on street corners...each time, once you've spotted it, stopping anew, to take in its commanding position on the hill, its vastness, its beauty...
And then your learn its amazing history...and once again you're dumbfounded...
Seeing Alexandra Palace and Alexandra Palace Park never cease (for me...) to be a source of excitement, wonder and amazement at its size, stunning architecture, brickwork, interior, interior plasterwork and murals.
This lens is a pointer to some of what Alexandra Palace offers individuals (for leisure and lifestyle options), SME and large organizations (for exhibitions and corporate events).
Alexandra Palace is surrounded by Alexandra Palace Park.
Alexandra Palace is now used as an exhibition, event and function venue...capable of hosting huge and small exhibitions, events and functions such as a wedding reception.
As a venue, Alexandra Palace is flexible and adaptable - as well as being able to host huge exhibitions and events, it is also capable of hosting small, intimate functions and corporate meetings in it's less bigger rooms...
For example, the aesthetically mural, elegant Londesborough Room was turned into a tea room for the Tetley sponsored Alexandra Palace 2008 Knitting and Stitching Show. A giant round tea bag was displayed outside the Londesborough Room to complete Tetley's centenary birthday celebration.
As part of the 2009 Open House London, the BBC studio at Alexandra Palace was opened (on the Saturday only) to the public for the first time - the Londesborough Room was used to show an archive screening of the BBC transmitter and the work involved for the first BBC high-definition television transmission.

The Palace on the Hill
Ally Pally - the People's Palace
Alexandra Palace is sometimes referred to as:
Alexandra Palace is no monster...vast, yes...and no doubt costly to run and maintain...but the vastness is majestically Victorian with a panoramic view over London rooftops and skyline...
However, it is the unashamedly stunning elegant interior of Alexandra Palace that takes one's breath away...
Exhibitions and events are held in The Great Room, the Panorama Room and/or the West Hall.
Conveniently there are various eating places within the Palace and Park including a a pub, the Phoenix.
Muswell Hill and Muswell Hill Broadway with its many restaurants, food stores, clothes and accessories stores, tea rooms and pubs are within walking distance - a de-stress, visually enticing leisurely stroll through Alexandra Park (but not when it is dark or at nightfall - to state the obvious...)
- The Palace on the Hill
- The Palace in the North (to differentiate it from Crystal Palace in South London, the Palace in the South)
- Locally, Alexandra Palace is referred to as Ally Pally
- Author J.B Priestley (1894 - 1984) allegedly referred to Alexandra Palace as the "monster of Muswell Hill"

Alexandra Palace Ice Rink
The Palace Ice Rink
Thursday, 12th November 2009: I watched 252 people set a new Guinness World Record for the longest "Conga on Ice" today at Alexandra Palace Ice Rink.A fun morning.
In a true show of community spirit, schoolchildren, students, mums, dads and Alexandra Palace staff "danced and shimmied on the rink" as they conga to break the world record for "Conga on Ice".
Fancy dress outfits were worn by some skaters, including those worn by characters from Oz on Ice.
"Oz on Ice" (based on the Wizard of Oz) was the "Christmas 2009 on ice show" at Alexandra Palace Ice Rink.
Alexandra Palace Ice Rink is being refurbish at the moment. A temporary ice rink has been set up in the Great Hall during the summer holiday. The refurbishment is expected to be completed in October 2010.
Alexandra Palace Park
Also known as Alexandra Park
Alexandra Palace Park is a public open space, over 196 acres of open parkland, consisting of trees, gardens, wildlife, deer enclosure, ponds, children play areas , nature reserve and areas of biodiversity projects.
Horse racing used to take place in the Park, the horse racing track can still be seen. People still exercise their horses in the park.
More than 100 species of birds have been identified within Alexandra Park. Bird ringing, also known as banding is carried out in the Park for bird conservation. Conservation helps to protect the bird habitats and environments. Data collected during bird ringing and subsequent reports of ringed birds teaches us more about the different species of birds in the park and beyond.

Summer migrating birds can be seen arriving in the Park from late April, early May. Winter migrating birds can be seen arriving in August/September.

Live Concerts
Alexandra Palace - Now Bigger and BetterGranted permission to increase its live music audience capacity (by 2,000) to 10,250, Alexandra Palace has just got bigger and better...
Because of its history, location, architecture and vastness, Ally Pally has always attracted the quality artists and acts...
In just three days in November, 66,000 people are reported to have visited Alexandra Palace to enjoy two live concerts and Ally Pally's "biggest and best fireworks display..."
- JAY-Z
- Morrissey
- Bonfire Night
Wednesday, 4th November, the Great Hall reverberated to the music of American multi-million selling artist and award winner JAY-Z
The live music performance capacity audience of 10,250 JAY_Z fans were the first crowd to take advantage of the extended audience capacity licence in the Great Hall.
The concert and audience filmed on the day became part of JAY-Z's new video for the single, Young Forever, featuring Birmingham born and London-based Mr Hudson.
On the 5th November, Morrissey gave an explosive performance in front of a 6,000-strong audience.
Alexandra Palace held its bonfire night on Saturday, the 7th November. The added attraction on the same day - a traditional German beer festival, an oompah band, family entertainment and funfair gave the annual fireworks display an extra boost...
An enchanted estimated 50,000 people watched fireworks lit the London skyline in a riot of noise and colour...
The community event was organized by the trading arm of the Alexandra Palace and Park Charitable Trust at a cost of £100,000 (according to Andrew Gill, Interim General Manager for the Alexandra Palace and Park Charitable Trust)
Gill hoped that voluntary donations given by the public on the night "...will go a long way towards offsetting the £100,000 cost of putting on this show.".
"This is exactly what Alexandra Palace should be doing - attracting crowds to enjoy a whole range of activities that appeal to all ages and tastes, making it truly a 'People's Palace'. We made sure there was plenty at the fireworks for everyone to enjoy - even the music accompanying the display ranged from classical to recent chart toppers - and there were discos, carousels and soft play areas for the very young. It was a fantastic atmosphere and attracted people from across the capital as well as locals," said Rebecca Kane, Managing Director of Alexandra Palace Trading Company Limited.

- I would like that everybody forgets about Viagra UK , Generic Viagra , Viagra Onlineand else things that may annoy you somehow. Once your mind is completely clear, these words are going to take you too far away from where you and me are, to some astral place, just as this nice experience of reading this stuff has taken me to somewhere I am daring to compare to an awesome place, Just exactly like as being over the rainbow would be, without noise, neither crappy stuff at all, where some good vibes, something like the music we know, I mean, there is a sort of kind magic that let you fly! Although the fact that many lensers might have thought that those words are empty simply because of this and that, I tightly hold to my beliefs. Then, pitty on those who couldn't even see through the fact that really matters! Of course, I didn't mean to be unpolite, because of this, sorry for this little rant. I have nothing else to add than thanks
