At home behind the camera as well as in front of it, Alex Winter is best known for his role as Bill S. Preston, Esq. in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. He's gained fans through the cult classics The Lost Boys and Freaked.

Who is he?
Alexander Ross Winter was born July 17th, 1965 in London, England. His mother Gregg was a New York-born American and his father was an Australian, both modern dancers who performed together in a modern dance company Gregg had formed in the mid-60s. Alex was trained as a dancer himself and when he was five the family relocated to St. Louis, MO in the United States.In 1973, Alex's parents divorced. Alex became involved in more theatrical aspects, studying improvisation as well as continuing to dance. Moving to New York in 1984, he attending New York University and starred in a number of plays. He met friend and fellow filmmaker Tom Stern; the two collaborated on a number of 16mm short films. Alex graduated from NYU with honors.
Making his Broadway-debut in The King & I, Alex also performed in various shows as well as off-Broadway. He and Tom Stern moved to Hollywood, where they collaborated again, this time on music videos as well as short films. Around this time Alex got his first supporting roles in Hollwood films, including Death Wish 3, Medium Rare and The Lost Boys. It was the last role, playing Marko the vampire, that would become of his most famous characters.
In 1989, Alex hit the big time by starring in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure with Keanu Reeves. The movie was a smash hit, spawning the sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey in 1991, as well as a cartoon show. Riding on this success, Alex teamed with Tom Stern and Tim Burns to write a sketch comedy show for MTV. The created The Idiot Box, which was successful for the channel but budgetary problems prevented additional seasons. Moving on, the team created 1993's Freaked for 20th Century Fox for a $12 million dollar deal. Despite acclaim from critics, the studio did not give the film wide release and it subsequently flopped at the box office. It has since developed a cult following since its release on VHS.
Alex laid low, doing voice work for television and film, writing, and enjoying the arrival of his son LeRoy in 1998. The following year saw his return to the director's seat. 1999's Fever was critically acclaimed and debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, Alex divides his time between the US and London, directing music videos and commercials. 2007 found him guest starring on an episode of FOX's Bones, as well as taking a recurring role as the voice of King Mole Man on Adult Swim's series Saul of the Molemen.
Alex is currently set to direct We're Here to Help, starring Alan Rickman.
