Algeria - Great History, Greater Adventure
Ranked #19,155 in Travel & Places, #446,563 overall
For those that like to travel, there are usually two different types of locations to consider planning a vacation to. The first type of location is the typical foreign tourist trap that caters to visitors and has not much to offer other than a nice landscape. Next, is a place that has a very rich culture and a history that is that is intriguing and waiting to be adsorbed. Algeria, is a bit of both. Since it is located next to the Mediterranean Sea there are some very nice beaches, but also there is so much history that surrounds this area it is simply amazing! In fact, there are a total of seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites here. This is a special honor that is given to places in the world that have very significant historical or geological significance to the earth. So if this sounds like a place that you might like to visit, just make sure that you have your passport ready to go.
Online services are great to use because they are so convenient. You can use their online application systems 24 hours a day, and you also do not have to go through the hassle of standing in line at a brick and mortar location. Also, they typically offer any passport service that you need such as the replacement of a lost passport.

What To See And Do
If you are looking to explore a little of Algeria's culture, start by visiting its capital city, Algiers. There are two parts of this city: the ancient city and the modern metropolitan city. Located near the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, Algiers is a lively city full of things to do and see. The ancient city is also interesting to visit. Located on a steep hill behind town, it's a window into the very beginnings of Algeria's occupation.
One of the UNESCO sites you will want to check out on your trip is The Mzab Valley. This area is very unique because the people that used to inhabit the town were very skilled architects and built their city to be very adapted to their surroundings. It was developed into five different walled off sections that each offer something interesting to see. Another UESCO site is Tipaza. While this location is somewhat new, it has some amazing archaeological remains of the Phoenician empire, as well as some Roman ruins and beautiful beaches.
Beni Hammad Fort is an ancient fortified city built a little after the year 1000. As one of the best standing examples of a Muslim fortified city, this town has also earned the distinction as being a World Heritage Site. Djemila is another site of Roman ruins, but built in order to adapt to the mountainous environment. In this ancient city, you can still find houses, arches, basilicas, a theatre, and temples.
Tassil n'Aijer is a National Park that has a desert mountain range as well as a Bioshpere Reserve. This location is very interesting to see because it has been affected greatly by erosion that has created some amazing landforms such as natural arches formed out of rock, and more.
As you can see, Algeria and it's attractions are all rooted deeply in history. If you are thinking of going, be sure to bring your camera, good walking (exploring!) shoes, and your USA passport. Don't forget about online passport services, where you can access everything you need.
