An Alice in Wonderland Sequel by Tim Burton
The new version of Alice in Wonderland, also known as Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland or Alice in Wonderland 2010 hit the big screen and IMAX theaters in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3-D on March 5, 2010. The film shatterred box office records for 3-D films and for other films.
The film generated a lot of pre-buzz and anticipation because of it's innovative director (Tim Burton), it's star-studded cast (Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee and Stephen Fry).
People have also been interested in seeing the use of live action, computer generated images (CGI) and 3D animation. Alice in Wonderland was the next major 3-D film released after Avatar. Those seeing the film were not disappointed.
Even before the movie opened, last Fall Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter were very popular Halloween costumes.

- I loved it. I don't watch many movies but I wasn't going to miss this one! It was fun. Tim Burton has dug deeper into the plot of the Alice In Wonderland story and delivered more philosophical ideas. I recently created a quick post and video about it too. Helena Bonham Carter (Tim Burton's Partner and mother of their two children) brings Iracebeth the Red Queen to life. With the help of digital technology, her head is enlarged, to make her seem even more menacing. Tim Burton has said of the character that the Red Queen now reminds him a bit of Leona Helmsley and a bit of his mother.
Carter has paired up with Burton in the films Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Big Fish and most recently the Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Anne Hathaway has described Mirana the White Queen as a punk-rock, vegan pacifist. In order to get the character right Hathaway has said that she listened to a lot of Blondie, watched a lot of Greta Garbo movies, and added in a little bit of Norma Desmond.
In an interview with Hathaway, she sheds some light on the role of the White Queen in the movie. "She's basically taken a vow of non-violence that she cannot break, and she's waiting for her champion to arrive to help her reclaim her throne-the citizens of Underland would like to see that happen. They want to see her restored to power, because she's kind."

Known for his portrayal of David Frost in Frost/Nixon (2008), Michael Sheen brings the computer-generated White Rabbit to life in the new Alice in Wonderland.
In Lewis Carroll's original book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the white rabbit is the one that causes her to stumble into Wonderland. Alice follows him down the rabbit hole into the whimsical land.

Stephen Fry - The Cheshire Cat
- Theeeee Alice?
We've only heard a bit from the Cheshire Cat in the Alice in Wonderland trailers, not enough even to realize that the Cheshire Cat is being voiced by Stephen Fry, the man who was hailed in January 2010 as a national treasure by the Prince of Wales. Fry was honored by the Prince at the National Television Awards as someone who has "enhanced our lives."
American audiences may recognize him most recently as the psychiatrist, Dr. Gordon Wyatt on "Bones."

Matt Lucas - Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
Actor Matt Lucas played both Tweedles - Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum or Tweedledee and Tweedledum. So far we haven't heard anything in the trailers from these two.According to descriptions of the Tweedles, these twins chatter back and forth to each other makes little sense to anyone else.
A stand in, actor Ethan Cohen, was use for the other Tweedle during the filming. You can read more about how the Tweedles were tweaked or digitally created by following the links below.

The Director

Director Tim Burton
Award Winning Director Tim Burton is known for his dark, gothic and eccentric films. His sequel to Alice in Wonderland is proving to be just that. I have enjoyed watching Tim Burton's films since I saw Edward Scissor Hands staring Johnny Depp many years ago.Burton's films seem to focus on those who are on the outside of society, perhaps a bit on the dark side. These themes were brought to his early films such as Edward Scissorhands and the Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow and Ed Wood and also to his later films the Nightmare Before Christmas and Big Fish.
Burton is also known for pushing creativity such as the use of stop motion animation with the Corpse Bride.
This is not the first time that Tim Burton has collaborated with Johnny Depp. Most recently they created a with a darker, slightly psychotic Willy Wonka with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the very psychotic Sweeny Todd in the award winning musical Sweeney Todd. They have teamed up again in Alice in Wonderland to bring the character of the Mad Hatter to life.
While we have seen the teaser trailers, it will be very interesting to see what twists and turns happen when Alice enters Burtonland.

I spent a couple of years during graduate school working as one of the seamstress for the costume shop at U.C. Davis. Ever since then I have been interested by the costumes, particularly period piece costumes, in movies.Academy Award-winner Colleen Atwood is the designer for the Alice in Wonderland costumes. Atwood has worked with Burton on many of his other films including Sweeney Todd, Big Fish, Planet of the Apes, Sleepy Hollow and Ed Wood.
The costumes for Alice in Wonderland are truly amazing, with so many small details. I cannot wait to see the Halloween costumes inspired by Tim Burton's take on Alice in Wonderland.

Alice is the New Black
Tim Burton inspired Alice in Wonderland merchandise is springing up in all kinds of places from t-shirts and totes to designer nail lacquer and jewelry. It appears that they will even be couture designs from the Alice in Wonderland movie.
I am still waiting to find some Burton Alice in Wonderland clothes that I can get my daughters. So far everything that I've seen is for adults and tweens.

- terrible movie. i hated it. but Im pretty confident I would have loved it had I seen it as a child. and I dont mean to condescend to younger viewers. the visuals are colorful and intriguing and the pacing is nice and brisk. I probably would have watched it and re-watched it as a bedtime movie.
