Alice Faye's Hollywood Career
Movies
After a few years as chorus girl, Alice Faye was asked to sing on radio on "The Fleischmann Hour" which starred Rudy Vallee and His Connecticut Yankees. Both starred in Fox Picture's "George White's Scandals." in 1933. A string of popular pictures for 20th Century-Fox such as "In Old Chicago," "Alexander's Ragtime Band," "Rose Of Washington Square," and " Lillian Russell," ensured that Alice Faye became a top box-office draw.
Becoming a mother gave Faye less reason for continuing her acting career, and she made only three films between 1941 and 1945. Studio Head Darryl F. Zanuck eventually lured her back with a dramatic part in "Fallen Angel." When she saw how much of her part had been edited for the sake of building up the career of co-star Linda Darnell, Faye walked off the lot. She would not return for sixteen years.
Radio
Alice Faye then co-starred with husband Phil Harris in popular comedy shows with music, such as "Fitch Bandwagon" (1946-1948) and "The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show" (1948-1954.)
In 1962, Alice faye returned to 20th Century-Fox for a role in "State Fair." She guest-starred on various TV shows throughout the 1960s and 1970s including that of her husband, the Perry Como Show, the Hollywood Palace, the Dean Martin Show, the Tonight Show, etc. She made several films in the 1970s; Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976), Every Girl Should Have One (1978), The Magic of Lassie (1978) and appeared in two documentaries; A Century of Cinema (1994), and Carmen Miranda: Bananas Is My Business (1995)
Stage
From 1973-1974, she toured cross-country with John Payne and Stubby Kaye in "Good News".
