The cool thing about dressing up as an Alien for Halloween is that no one really knows what an alien looks like, so you can really do anything you want with your costume, the more 'out of this world' the better!

One of the best places to get ideas for an Alien costume is Star Trek and Star Wars movies. And if you look around here you'll see that aliens really come in all shapes and sizes and they have all sorts of strange looking features.

The character who comes to mind first is Mr. Spock from Star Trek, he of the pointy ears and pale skin. And when you look around at the other aliens you see in movies you'll see that a lot of them have large or pointy ears. So large, pointy ears would be a good place to start with your own alien attire.

You've probably noticed that Aliens come in a lot of different colors - colors we don't normally see here on earth. Green and Blue seem to be popular skin colors for those coming from the outer reaches of the universe and you can get that glowing color, too.

But maybe you've tried painting your face green in the past and you really didn't like the results. Let me share my secret with you!

* First, wash your face, pat it dry and apply some type of moisturizer, even if it's just a dab of your mother's favorite hand cream. Rub it in good and let it dry for a minute.

* Next, apply a good layer of white face paint or makeup, everywhere you're planning to paint yourself green. Again, wait a few minutes to let it dry. Applying a layer of white first will make the green or blue you use look even brighter and more realistic. It won't have that faded washed out look like you see on everyone else. You'll look like you really are an green-skinned alien!

* Once the white makeup is dry you can apply your green or blue - or even purple! And now you'll really start to look like an alien. Use regular eye makeup to make dark circles around your eyes or mascara to make your eyebrows bolder and bushier.

Don't worry about having so much makeup on your face. That layer of moisturizer you started with will make it easier to wash it all off after the party.

For a finishing touch, you can decorate your face with some stick on rhinestones. A lot of aliens have tattoos or designs on their skin, something that makes them stand out from the crowd. Create you own sparkly designs with stick on rhinestones that you can easily remove when the party's over.
