Alison Krauss - Bluegrass With Roots...

Alison started out playing classical violin, however, it wasn't long before she found herself deeply rooted in "Bluegrass".
Alison Krauss was born July 23, 1972 in Decatur, Illinois. At an early age "Alison fell in love with music. Alison began studying classical violin at the young age of five, but it wasn't long before she switched to bluegrass music. By the age of eight she started entering local talent contests, and at ten she had her own band.... At 13 she won the "Walnut Valley Festival Fiddle Championship" and the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America named her the Most Promising Fiddler in the Midwest. By the time Alison was fourteen, she was recording. In 1985 Alison released her very first solo album on the independent album, titled "Different Strokes". Soon after her first album was releised "Alison" signed on with Rounder Records, and in 1987 at 16, she released her debut album, "Too Late to Cry", with Union Station as her backup band. Alison has had a lasting relationship with "Union Station band", and still performs with them today .
Alison's melodical voice, and superb violin playing has greatly helped renew interest in bluegrass music in the United States. She stays true to her Bluegrass roots, and has released eleven albums, and produced numerous soundtracks for movie's. Her soundtrack performances have led to further her popularity in the music industry, she won a "Grammy award" for the soundtrack from " O Btother, Where Art Thou ?" The movie was a modest hit, however, the soundtrack became one of those grass roots examples of people seeking out some great music that doesn't have a chance at radio. The soundtracks CD spawned a return to Bluegrass. Alison has gone on to win 26 Grammy Awards, making her the most awarded female artist (and the third most awarded artist overall) in Grammy history.
