Exciting new things

I have been meaning to write this lens for ages. My other lens dedicated to Alistair http://www.squidoo.com/algriffin has got too big to edit so I thought I should make a new improved updated version to carry thru when the new album is released and all the new exciting things start happening.

Just Drive - Alistair Griffin

On Sunday 14th November Alistair will have an exclusive track played on the BBC Formula 1 program. I was asked to put together a video to promote the song alongside this.

After a crazy week for Alistair following Just Drive being exclusively played during the closing credits of the Formula 1 coverage of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Reg Yates announced on BBC Radio 1 that it made number 38 in the UK Top 40.
In Alistair's own words "No label.just thru iTunes. No campaign, no radio, just two plays on F1 coverage. The will of the people beat the machine for once"

Alistair Griffin secret gig #1

Live in London May 24th 2011

Alistair Griffin LiveAlistair posted on his Facebook that he was going to be doing a couple of small gigs in London and Manchester. To win exclusive tickets to this gig, you had to email the management with ideas for Merchandising on upcoming tours.
I managed to get the day off work in advance and sent in my entry.
Guess What? I WON!! YAY!!

I booked first class train tickets to London because they turn out to be cheaper that standard class if you buy singles rather than a return.

The show was taking place at 229 Great Portland street, The Venue. The invitation said 6.45pm start be there for 6.15pm. I had met some fellow fans in Starbucks and we were outside the Venue for dead on 6pm. I was surprised that there was no one else around I thought there would be a big crowd of fans old and new attending.

Alongside the Venue was parked the Mustang from the Just Drive video so we took the chance to photograph it while we waited. Then one of Al's people came out and moved it, parking it up on the pavement. I got a bit excited, not really sure why.

When we were finally told we could go in, my heart was beating fast and my stomach was beating off huge butterflies. I was first down the stairs. I was greeted by 2 girls I knew from Griffin gigs I had been to before and had my hand stamped before going into the club room.

It was quite a small room. The stage was at the front as you go through the door. Along the left-hand wall was a small bar. Along the right-hand wall were 3 tables. In the middle of the room was a large sofa.
At the back of the room there was a table set up with a scalextric course to mimic the Abu Dhabi track. Also on the left wall was a table of jars of Lemon Curd.

Along with the people I had met up with, I sat down at the table furthest the back. Alistair's mum was already sat at the table in the middle.
As we waited for Alistair to appear, It became obvious that this little shindig was a showcase for Media luvvies. In attendance were record company people as well as journos, TV and Radio execs. I did start to feel very privileged especially when I realised I was one of only 10 fans that would be there.

Alistair appeared on stage at a little after 7pm. He was introduced on stage by his old mate (F1 presenter) Jake Humphrey

Of course there was a bit of Banter in between and the old Griffin joker came out too but it was over so quickly. There were lots of cheers and shouts for more so Alistair returned with an encore of Blown away and the audience certainly were!

Alistair did say that we should take away a jar of his infamous Lemon Curd so I did indeed.

There seemed to be a lot of happy faces in the room once it was over. A good buzz and I had noticed a lot of foot tapping and head nodding while Al was singing so I am keeping my fingers and everything else crossed that this brings big things now in Alistair's future...

Have you seen Four Rooms? It's the show where normal people go to antiques experts to try and sell whatever semi-valuable heirlooms they've found in their attic, so the can afford to send their disabled child on holiday to Vegas. Or something along those lines anyway. It's basically somewhere between the Antiques Roadshow and a CIA interrogation.
