How Natural is Our Chicken?

Ranked #10,760 in Food & Cooking, #192,308 overall

How natural is the chicken you eat?

Chicken these days are filled with steroids, antibiotics and disease.Commerial farmers are regulated by the USDA (United States Department of Africulture) and they dictate to farmers as to what weight an animal must be before they are processed for human consumption. If you were a commercial farmer what would you do to get your profit?

If you are the farmer. your first thought would be to get the animal to that weight as quickly as possible. no matter the age. The biggest and most convenient way to do that is steroids. Build weight quickly in a short period of time. There is now a way to raise a chicken unnaturally, immediately from the egg. The process starts all the more sooner.

Quicker growth means less feed, less manpower, and a quicker turn in profit!

How do we keep them Healthy till Processing?

ANTIBIOTICS!

type=textWhen something grows faster than its body allows, the immune system can't keep up. This allows for disease and sickness to manifest in all areas. Again, in the farmer's point of view, a chicken that dies before processing is lost profit!

Modern medicine has grown rapidly over the past few decades and with that, many antibodies for certain diseases. Why not strengthen the immune system with antibodies until the weight is reached? The problem with this is, the chicken is filled with antibodies at the offset of birth. Diseases can mutate and become resistant to the bscteria over time.

Fifty to sixty years ago. penicillin was the miracle drug. The cure-all for everything! Is anyone prescribed that these days? Of course not. Many of the common diseases we have have progressed to become resistant to this. Amoxicillin is becoming less and less potent as time progresses.

We are what we eat!!!

If we are eating this, so are our kids!!

All Natural Chicken Broth

Chicken broth is stock made from chickens. Here are some all natural and organic chicken broths made so no added steroids or antibiotics!

Do you believe you are what you eat?

type=textMany people believe this. If you are overweight (70% of americans are) and you want to lose the weight it is often hard for us to maintain the weight we got rid of. But is it feasible to lose the weight if our food is filled with steroids? It is not just chicken but almost every commercially grown livestock is. Steroids are designed to help something grow. They are used to produce quicker weight and if we ingest it, is it safe to think that the same can happen to us?

With us ingesting all this chemically infested meat it is harder for us to lose weight and our bodies are maturing at a faster weight. Our kids are growing quicker and reproducing earlier. Who's to day that technology can be a part of the blame. We are increasing our population so greater supplies need to be produced to meet demand. In the end it is also affecting us.

A look into the time frame!

How long it takes to grow from egg to process

type=textI am not an advocate of PETA. I still eat meat (chicken, beef, and pork) but I have changed from commercially farm raised meat to more organic meats.

Doing research. I have found that farmers can raise a chicken from egg to processing in about 35 days.LondonGirl on Hubpages has a great page highlighting a lot of the sme information including benefits of free range chicken. Of course, this is done to meet demand but we should be more careful what goes into our bodies. If the weight is natural it should take over 90 days to reach proper weight. Immune systems are grown properly without the aid of antibiotics. Steroids do not increase the weight at all and the chickens can lead a proper life, free from disease and growth hormone/stimulants. Since we ingest these, we are filling ourselves with this as well.

Try and look for cleaner and chemical free chicken. We won't fill ourselves with the extras and can lead healthier lives. Most people have come to the conclusion that healthier and more nutritious food is more expensive and it can be. Depends on where you shop. Look for the deals or visit local farmer's markets. They don't always bring livestock but it can't hurt to ask. I'd just look to see if he uses a natural method as well. Prices could be better this way but it comes with the cleaning on your part. If that is out of the question, you may spend a bit extra per pound:(

Viewer Discretion

These can be gruesome. I will add more as I come across them but please be careful watching as it can change your stomach. Can be graphic and if you have a weak stomach I advise not to watch it.

Another thing about chicken and other meat animals. They are specially bred to grow really fast and gain the most weight on the least amount of feed. The special cross used for most broiler chickens in this country cause the breasts to be so huge and the birds to grow so fast that they often have crippled weak legs and can barely stand or walk. They have to have special high protein feed or they literally starve to death because they can't eat enough normal chicken feed to keep up with their growth.
