Camping Out in a Tent

It is magical. You put up your tent, crawl in, and experience life from the inside of a new fabric-enclosed space created just for you. You arrange your things, lay back on your air mattress or cot, and look at the ceiling. A sigh of exhilarated relaxation comes from your lips as you realize how much you love the experience.

There's nothing homier or more comforting when you're out in the wilderness than putting up and getting into your tent. It is more than just a night time shelter. It's magic.

1. Have a Camp Out 

Use a tent to camp out in. Naturally.

2. De-Clutter Station 

Set up a tent in the backyard to store boxes in. Clear your home of clutter. Better yet, set up a clutter clearing station in the tent and use it to sort through your clutter to get rid of it!

3. Juvenile Activity Center 

Set up a tent in the yard for the kids to play in. This is a perfect spot for those pesky "overnights" with their friends.

If your cat has kittens, let them live in a tent instead of inside your house. Voila! No more kitty-mess in your living space.

5. Homelessness Insurance 

If you lose your home, a tent will provide adequate temporary shelter. I know, nobody wants to consider this possibility - but in case it ever happens, a tent is something that could come in handy.

I've tent-camped since I was a kid, and took my own kids on camping vacations. I used my small tent with a screen room erected right over the top as a 'vacation home' at the seashore. Our neighbors used their tent as a guest room when they had family visiting from out of state. Fun, inventive lens! 5*

I honestly did not know which way to vote because I love camping. However, we graduated to a tent trailer -- mostly because it allows us to take more stuff than we could fit in the car with our two teenage boys and because my husband can stand up which is much easier on his back. I've put my vote under 'Yes' because 'No' didn't seem the right place!

7. Change-o-rama 

On day trips to swimming holes, a tent can provide a place to change clothes.

8. Prepare For the Worst 

Store food in your tent to avoid paying higher prices later due to inflation. A good backup food storage plan is something every family should have.

9. Get Away From It All 

Do you need a quiet, all-alone thinking space? A writer's retreat somewhere where the craziness of family life can't touch you? A tent might be just the right thing.

10. Herb Gardener Special 

If you have a herb garden, you could dry your herbs inside a tent by hanging them from the ceiling.

BONUS: One more thing you can do with a tent... 

If your in-laws come to visit - make them right at home - in your tent. This last suggestion came from my significant other. He suggests a dog barking nearby might be a nice touch.

I have to add, he's never met my parents so I don't know where he gets this odd idea, but some of you might find it helpful.
