IT'S A MIVEC DUDE!!!

Remarkable MIVEC Engine makes power performance and environmental protection compatible
MIVEC = Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system
The dual-intake valve camshaft enables changing between low-speed and high-speed modes, resulting in easy operation from low to high rpms, improving the driving experience when starting from a stop light, merging onto the freeway, or accelerating to overtake another car. In the pursuit of pure driving enjoyment, potentially incompatible goals like fuel economy, environment-friendliness, and clean driving have all been achieved.
[Low-speed Mode]
The difference in the dual-intake valve lift (low lift and medium lift) and enhanced in-cylinder streaming further stabilize combustion without compromising fuel economy, emissions, and torque.
[High-speed Mode]
Extending the injection valve opening time and expanding the valve lift range increases intake air mass and achieves output close to best in class.

I would like to dedicate this page for all the MIVEC fans out there. I would like to make this site as informative as possible and hope we could benefit from it.After all, I am a really big fan of those killer Vtec and i suppose in the US, Honda are more famous than those Mitsus. But all that i got is a 15 year old Proton and a little bit of cash.so I installed this engine and Mod it as good as it gets and to my surprise, it feels great. So, I'm not of a Honda fanatic now and i hope to share ideas with you all out there.

tech general

These are what the Mivec Owners Group recommend based on Mitsubishi Specifications. (Applies to all models unless otherwise stated)

Engine Oil : 10w40, API SF (or better)
Engine Oil service Interval : 5000km-10000km depending on use (or when it gets dirty)
- Oil Brand is entirely upto you, you mostly get what you pay for but even the cheapest oil already exceeds original factory specifications.
- Mitsubishi don't recommend synthetics for the 1G engines (original seals not designed for synthetic and can lead to leaks)
- If you engine is using oil or your oil pressure is low, try a heavier grade such as 15W50, or 15w60. Also recommended for engines used in competition.

Valve Clearances
4G9x valves clearances are
0.1mm Inlet
0.2mm Exhaust
Note The service manual for the 1G has them as 0.2mm inlet and 0.3mm exhaust, but the 2G settings seem to be be fine and reduce tappet noise.

Sparkplugs: NGK BKR7EIX-11 (Iridium)
Service interval: 50,000km or more
NGK BKR7ES standard plugs and also works fine but has shorter life span
- Perhaps try a '6' heatrange if your engine is fouling plugs or your mostly doing city driving.

Gearbox Oil: 75W/85 GL4
Gearbox Oil Service Interval
No LSD: 80,000km
LSD: 40,000km
- Factory oil is Castrol VMX.
- Use only GL4 oils (or GL5 that is fully compatible with GL4)

Power Steering
Service Interval: 50,000km
Drain and replace fluid.
Use Dextron III ATF fluid.

Brake Fluid
Service Interval: 50,000km
Drain and replace fluid. May need to more frequent if regularly abused. DOT4 fluid or better. Recommend replace fluid whenever pads are changed.
Recommend to 'bleed' the brakes at least annually, and prior to attending a trackday.

Replace ECU Capacitors before your car is 10 years old
The factory capacitors in the ECU can leak and cause permanent damage to the ECU. Save yourself a very expensive repair bill and have them replaced BEFORE they cause drivability problems, or permanent damage.
Applies to all ECUs over 10 years, including both 1G and 2G models.

which sound do you prefer?

Some people loves their exhaust setp sounds. In a multi valve engines, the sounds are like songs humming in your earholes. The question is....
