Dance- Recreation, Exercise and Sport

This lens is all about dance, a type of recreation that is great fun, exercise and sport. Dance is the movement of the body usually to rhythms or music. It is a form of expression and can even be considered a way of non verbal communication. I have always enjoyed dance even though I have not done it in quite a few years. This lens is about many different types of dance.

A Little Dance History

What exactly dance is, depends on the culture you are speaking of. Dance can be competitive, ceremonial or even sensuous. But whatever you consider dance, all types had a beginning somewhere, probably back in the time of the earliest humans. Back in 3300 BC artifacts have been found which depict dancing in tomb paintings.

Also during early times in history dance was seen as a way to heal sickness, or as a way to break a spell, perhaps a spell on a bewitched king!

A Little About Capezio Shoes

Salvatore Capezio from Italy started out making repairs on shoes for people who performed at the Met. He was known for his great craftsmanship, and his friendliness. After making an emergency pair of shoes for someone in need, he went from repairs to creating his own dance shoes, in particular for ballet, tap and pointe. His reputation for excellence made his company grow and by the 1930's dancers all across stages were wearing his products. Some famous people including Fred Astaire, Anna Pavlova, Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse and Eleanor Powell wore Capezio shoes.

Still popular today, Capezio dancewear has now grown to include footwear for ice skaters.
