A Wonderful Children's Book Author

Elvira Woodruff is not only a talented children's book author who has traveled the world in search of the perfect stories to tell our generations children, she's also an experienced public speaker and promoter of emerging authors everywhere.

I first met Elvira Woodruff at the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group Write Stuff conference in March of 2008. She told some wonderful stories, and encouraged us authors just starting out on our journey with her kindness and her wisdom.

About Elvira Woodruff

Elvira Woodruff is an author, public speaker, and traveler. When she researches a book, she really gets into it! She's written such books as The Ravenmaster's Secret and George Washington's Socks.

There are a bunch of juicy tidbits about Elvira Woodruff on her website biography. Want to read some great public speaking and travel stories by Elvira? Read an interview with her on my Emerging Author blog

The Ravenmaster's Secret

Elvira had some great stories to tell about this book during her talk. She had a chance to speak to the Royal Ravenmaster of London herself while performing her research!

Set in the Tower of London in 1735, this is a book rich with history, adventure, and suspense. A young boy must decide between following the rules he has always lived by, or helping a young daughter of the enemy escape from the Tower with her life intact.

The Orphan of Ellis Island

Elvira tells a wonderful story about how she found a photograph of an immigrant family in a shop while visiting Ellis Island, and how it became the inspiration for this book. On her travels, Elvira also saw an immigrant graffiti image of a goat with wings which she wound into her story as well.

This is an inspiring time travel tale about and searching for the true meaning of family.

George Washningon's Socks

Another one of Elvira's tales about time travel. In this one, children on a campout are sent back in time to the Revolutionary war.

If you like this story, Elvira has told me she's working on a sequel - Ben Franklin's Shoes!
