The Silky Brown or Black Rabbit

Havana rabbits can make great pets, but is a havana rabbit a good rabbit breed for you?

I have a little English Spot rabbit that was born on March 7, 2009. I adopted him on April 11, 2009. Now, before I got him, I considered getting a Havana rabbit because of their sweet temperaments. English rabbits were my first choice, but havana rabbits were second. I love their silky fur and beautiful eyes! Enjoy!

About Havana Rabbits

Havana rabbits are registered by the ARBA, or American Rabbit Breeders Association. They weigh up to 6 lbs. and come in three colors: Chocolate, Black, and Blue.

Colors

Havana rabbits come in the traditional deep chocolate color along with a rich jet black and a deep gray (gray with a blueish tint). Their coats have a satin-like sheen, like Satin rabbits.

Personality

Havana rabbits are known for being very laid back and relaxed. They are also known for being friendly. I have known a havana rabbit and even though it was a baby, it was very calm and hardly struggled.

If you are considering getting a Havana rabbit, then remember that rabbits are a long-term commitment (7-10 years or more) and require daily care like a dog or a cat. If you decide that a Havana rabbit is right for you, then make adopting one your first option.

Remember...

That rabbits live 8-12 years. Make sure you learn about them first ad that you are prepared for the long term commitment! :)

Grace M. says:

I love bunnies! I have four of my own. They are good pets, and are very loving. Daily you need to love them, and pet them and snuggle with them. I do even myself own a havana rabbit, and he's getting pretty old but is it possible that there are havana minis? My boy is quite small, and he wasn't at all the runt of the litter. He's rather loving, but an angry little man. A big temper, but we do indeed love him.

Aliza Ali says:

Also my little bunny LOVED carrots we ended up giving her a whole carrot a day. It did not cause any problems.

Aliza Ali says:

My little bunny died recently, she never bit, she never struggled when you held her, and her fur was sooooooooo silky! She was six yrs old, almost seven. Havana rabbits are PERFECT for small kids. Don't listen to reports that say they bite. If you like rabbits, you'll love Havanas.

Neleh says:

They do! Love your bun and it will love you back! They need lots of space, and company! You have to know just what to feed your bun to keep it happy on the inside! No lettuce and only a little carrot (like 1 slice per week!) do your research and be rewarded by love!
