THE BENEFITS OF JUICING

A co-worker of mine introduced me to the benefits of 'juicing'. Her and her husband are vegetarians who explained how juicing for better health is easy and delicious. Their children actually ask for juice!

I have heard of juicing before and listened to Montel Williams speak about his experience with juicing and how it has helped him with his MS.

Since I have recently been diagnosed with Crohn's disease/colitis and my son was diagnosed with the same disease many years ago, I have looked further into the benefits of juicing. When eating some fresh vegetables and fruits they can trigger our disease, but the juice does not. This will enable us to get the necessary vitamins and nutrients our body needs.

I have learned that a balanced diet, regular exercise, a positive attitude and the juices of sprouts, greens, wheatgrass, fresh vegetables and fruits play an important role in maintaining good or even better health.

Juicing has the power to protect us from disease and illness by strengthening our immune system. It stimulates our metabolism and keeps us 'clean' on the inside.

Let's be honest here, most of us eat alot of synthetic processed foods, which contain chemicals. How are those foods good for us? They are not..

A good juicer extracts the 'good' juice from the vegetables and fruits and eliminates the bad parts. You empty the container from the back (or side) of the juicer. The pulp and the (bad)fiber that is not good for your body, you just throw away.

I believe you will truly benefit from juicing. Either maintaining or gaining better health, this is something you should really consider. I can speak as someone who suffers from Crohn's/Colitis. Those of you who suffer with this disease or other digestive issue, you will feel a difference.

Montel Williams truly believes this has helped with his suffering from MS. He even wrote a book sharing his experience and offers his knowledge to others, so they too can have better health.

VITAMINS

Juicing For Better Health

Juicing is here to stay. This isn't just some fad that will eventually come and go. Why? Because fresh juices of fruits and vegetables play an important role in our health and they are nutrient rich.

It has been said that nutritional deficiencies are the most common and the least acknowledged contributors in the development of disease and illness. This is so because most people are not eating balanced food groups. They are not eating whole, pure and natural foods as we should.

The fresh juice of fruits and vegetables contain vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other factors that enhance our health. So even if you're feeling the best ever or feeling low in energy, juicing will have a positive impact on your health.

Adding wholesome foods and fresh juices to your diet, combined with positive thoughts, having quality companions in your life and exercise can be the start of the journey to a more healthy and happy life.

Vitamins:What is the Function of Vitamins?

Vitamins are organic compounds that our body cannot make on its own. Vitamins are used to fuel our bodies. By fuel, I'm referring to our metabolism, growth and repair. A deficiency of only one vitamin can produce symptoms of disease.

Fresh juice is an excellent source for acquiring vitamins. Used in balance with a whole foods diet, juicing will supply you with an adequate amount of vitamins and nutrients for optimal health.

Unlike synthetic vitamins, fresh juice will not cause you danger of toxicity, buildup or imbalance.

If you are looking for vitamin potency, choose the vitamins you want and drink the juices that contain them. It's just that simple.

Here are a few examples:

Vitamin A ~
Promotes normal growth and development, helps eyesight, maintains clear & healthy skin and has been linked to cancer prevention. Fresh carrot or 'green' juices contain an abundance of vitamin A.

Vitamin C ~
Known to help cure colds, heart disease, cancer and other ailments. Vitamin C is an antioxidant. It helps protect our nerves, glands, joints and helps absorption of iron. All fresh fruit and vegetables contain Vitamin C.

Vitamin B Complex ~
This group work together to help the body digest and use the energy in carbohydrates. It also promotes resistance to infection. Green, sprout and citrus juices made with a high speed juicer contain significant amounts of B Complex.

Vitamin E ~
This is an important antioxidant. It helps the heart to function and promotes the use of fatty acids. Scientists also think that vitamin E may protect fertility in women and men. Fresh beet, celery and green juices contain vitamin E. (Whole grains, seeds and nuts do also)

MINERALS, FLUIDS & ENZYMES

Do you take a multi-vitamin that contains minerals? If you do, did you know that minerals found in foods are different than those in supplemental pills?

The minerals found in food are combined with amino acids and sometimes vitamins. When they bond, the process is called chelation. The body can easily recognize and use minerals in chelated form, compared to synthetic form.

Fresh juice contains balanced chelated minerals. They can keep your energy level high, calm your nerves and keep your muscles, heart, hair, teeth, bones and nails strong. They also keep the blood clean and the PH blood levels balanced.

Each mineral has a specific function. See below for the function of the major minerals contained in fresh juice.

Potassium balances the tissues of the heart and all other muscles. Iron is a component of red blood cells. It transports oxygen to the lungs and helps in cell respiration. Phosphorus is essential to the proper function of the brain and nerves. Calcium maintains the acid/alkaline balance of the blood and strengthens bones. Sulfur aids in the functioning of the brain and nerves. It's a body cleanser. Iodine fuels the thyroid gland, which controls our body's metabolism. Magnesium helps muscle relaxation, energy production and is a natural laxative. Manganese is vital for the function of the brain. Germanium helps in the function of our immune system and bowels. There have been studies that show it also helps with mood disorders. Selenium works with Vitamin E to delay oxidation of fatty acids.

Fluids in Fresh Juice:
Fresh juice is valuable for the fluid content. Approximately 65 percent of our bodies is made up of water. Water is the main component of the blood. Our blood feeds our cells and carries away the waste products of metabolism. The more healthy our blood is, the more vital the cells are. That in turn means, bodily health.

Fresh juice also helps cleanse the blood and transports live energy to our bodies.

When we drink coffee, tea, soda, beer etc...each contains sugar, additives, preservatives, caffeine and various other ingredients. Our body needs to eliminate those ingredients before it finds the purified fluids. Our kidneys and liver work overtime to expel the foreign elements.

The fluid in fresh juice is pure water. It contains no harmful substances, so our organs do not have to work so hard to process. Fresh juice is also a great thirst quencher. A great juice to drink after an exercise program to supply your body with electrolytes is: 4 parts watermelon and 1 part cucumber and celery. Mix that with an equal amount of spring water.

Enzymes in Fresh Juice:
Enzymes build and rebuild the body. There are approximately 1,000 different enzymes and they work within every living body. Without enzymes a human would be lifeless. Enzymes help flush the entire gastrointestinal system by digesting and neutralizing excess protein and fat. All fresh fruit juice contains valuable enzymes to help with digestion and internal cleansing.

RDA vs ODA

Learn How To Get Optimum Health

Most of us realize that vitamins and minerals are essential for good health, but do you know how much your body needs?

In the medical and nutritional industry, there are many opinions about the guidelines we should follow. If you notice on any vitamin bottle, there is the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). I often wondered about that because to me, it seems it is a 'one size fits all' recommendation. How could those recommended amounts benefit all the people of various ages and weights who take the vitamin? Maybe at best, those recommendations are the minimum amounts needed.

Many nutritionists and health professionals have come up with the Optimum Daily Allowance (ODA) guideline. This guideline is to ensure optimum nutrition, not minimum. The optimum daily allowance (ODA), is often 5 to 100 times higher than government RDA guidelines

The ODA is a more personalized guideline, taking into consideration the person's sex, age, weight, family history, emotional, physical and environmental stress. They say fresh squeezed juice can play a major role in satisfying your ODA. While most people eat processed foods and synthetic vitamins and minerals, juice provides optimum nutrition.

The RDA for Vitamin C is only 60 milligrams. But recent studies show the ODA (optimum daily allowance) of C is at least 500 milligrams. RDA for Vitamin E is 30 International Units (IU), while the ODA for Vitamin E is between 200 and 400 IU's.

So what do you think? Are you getting the proper amount of vitiamins and nutrients? We certainly are not getting the proper amount with the processed food we eat and it certainly isn't going to help protect us from disease or keep us in optimum health.

If you want optimum health or have a condition that would benefit from support through good nutrition, the RDA is not enough. If you rely solely on those one a day vitamins and think you are protecting yourself...think again.

THE CLEANSING POWER OF FRESH JUICE

Juices from sprouts, greens and vegetables are mild cleansers. The juice from fresh fruit are considered to be strong cleansers. They are full of Vitamin C, pure liquid and the acids that give them their tartness have the ability to get rid of waste and harmful bacteria in the tissues of our bodies.

The three acids found in fruits are citric acid, tartaric acid and malic acid. Citric acid is found most abundantly in lemon juice, followed by lime juice, grapefruit, orange, cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, pineapple, peach and tomato.

As with most things, having too much citric acid is not a good thing. Your blood can become too acidic due to high sugar, fat or protein intake. When this happens, your body borrows the alkaline minerals: calcium and magnesium from your skeletal system and teeth. If the condition persist, the bones become weak and they can break if you fall. Your diet needs to contain fresh, whole foods to fight weakening bones.

So, how much citric acid is enough? The right amount is determined by your age and physical activity. Activity helps to metabolize citric acid. Younger people metabolize citric acid better and easier than older people. If you are older and are not active, you may want to limit your citric acid (citrus fruits & juices) to 3 or 4 six ounce servings a week.

WHEN SHOULD YOU DRINK FRESH JUICE?

Most people drink beverages while they are eating their meals. BUT, this happens to be the worst time to so. Why? There are actually two reasons.

1) During the process of digestion, your food is broken down to the most useful elements to be used as fuel. Nature has given us saliva that is chemically balanced and digestive juices to help with this important process. If you add additional liquids to this process, you are actually diluting and weakening our body's own digestive juices and in turn, it's digestive process.

2) Fresh juices contain highly concentrated sugars and starches. These can ferment in the digestive tract while waiting for the food eaten with them to be digested. This could give you digestive upsets.

For the two reasons mentioned, it is best to drink fresh juices on an empty stomach or one half hour before meals or one half hour after meals. You can also drink your fresh juice as a snack between meals.
