This is a picture of Tamora Pierce and I from a recent book signing I attended. See that goofy look on my face? That's because I've been reading Tamora's books for, let's see, more than a decade now, and I couldn't believe I was finally meeting her in person! Read on to learn more about this amazing author.

About Tamora Pierce

Tamora Pierce has a great bio on her website, and I can't do much better than that! But here are a few quick bites to whet your appetite:

- Tamora's first book, Alanna: The First Adventure, was published in 1983. She's been writing and publishing books ever since, and now her fame and international renown are through the roof!

The Song of the Lioness Quartet

This was the first series I read by Tamora Pierce. Actually, I got the books from the library, and I ended up starting with In the Hand of the Goddess by accident! I think it's a testament to Tamora's writing skill that I still enjoyed the series, although things made more sense when I actually went back and read the first book!

In Alanna's world of Tortall, females are no longer allowed to become knights, so she must disguise herself as a boy and trade places with her twin brother in order to become a page. Alanna's tale is easy to get swept up in, as she fights first against the other pages and squires and then against powerful foes of magic and might.

Protector of the Small Quartet

This is the series I'm working my way through right now. Tamora Pierce adds another excellent series to her repetoire, full of interesting characters and exciting intrigues set in a realistic, albeit fantastical, world.

This time around, Keladry is the girl hoping to make it to knighthood. After Alanna's success, women have once again been allowed to become pages, although not without strings attached! Adventure, romance, danger, and magic about in these fascinating tales.

Daughter of the Lioness Books

Alanna's daughter Alianne (a.k.a. Aly) turns out to be just as much of a troublemaker as Alanna is! This story follows the journey of Aly as she is captured by pirates and sold as a slave to the copper isles. There she is chosen by the gods to start a rebellion and turn the leadership over to those it rightfully belongs to. Like Alanna before her, Aly makes many allies (both human and magical, like the Darkings) and a quite a few enemies in the process.
