or Allan R. Wallace in a nutshell
This picture is actually of lt.-colonel Allan B. Wallace, taken in 1898. I'm sure he is bald under that hat. I've shown the picture to close friends and they thought it was me dressed up in a period costume.
I don't like labels, they are too convenient a way to mentally sort, file, and then ignore new information. I'm sure some will leave this page due to a part of my eccentric descriptive - and they may miss something that would have profited them.
What you learn about me will be worthless unless it helps you learn more about yourself.
Almost too much family history
but it does explain a lot
Our family oral history states that William Wallace had children by that gal the English sheriff killed. The children were hidden as it might have been a capitol offense to be a Braveheart heir.Kids don't want to be tortured and have their pieces dragged through Scotland as a warning. Happily, you can help ensure the future will not care what tribe anyone's ancestors wandered in.
The English still didn't like us. We were kicked out of Scotland and sent into exile in Ireland. That was still too close, so in the late 1600s Matthew Wallace and his wife Elizabeth were exiled by the British to the American colonies.
We did get even, a hundred years later we helped exile the English back to Britain - we kept the colonies.
They were nice back then.
I love books - but I can recommend these few movies.
There are few movies I can watch attentively, I tend to wander off if a movie becomes predictable.
Most modern movies have agendas and are trying to sell something - I'm not buying. These few allow me to stay and enjoy the film. I will modify this list occasionally.
If even I can enjoy them, you will probably love them.
We're No Angels
A Christmas movie favorite - all year 'round.
Allan R. Wallace Quotes
"Life, liberty and love; to experience them fully you must be willing to share them fully." - Allan Wallace

"Write a wise saying and your name will live forever." - Unknown
I do get quoted every now and then, sometimes by myself. Everyone likes using an appropriate phrase to delineate a thought, occasionally I have a good one. I'll rotate in new quotes occasionally
"If there are several opposing opinions on an issue, all of them can't be right; however, all of them can be very wrong." - Allan Wallace
"Our knowledge is so limited, our abilities seem so inadequate, most people see themselves as small insects - They cope by being serious about whatever crack in the sidewalk they were born into. Ignoring limitless potential within a wondrous world, they cling to the security of their limited crack. Crawl out of the crack, take a few steps down the sidewalk, then decide where you want to fly." - Allan R. Wallace
"Regardless of what you have been taught to believe; your most important asset is time - not money or possessions, your most important impact will be made through relationships - not through positions or certifications." - A R Wallace
"Denial is most dangerous when change is structural. The bureaucratic age is ending, your past is not your future. Historic world views are now self-destructive. Survival is not guaranteed. Adaptability is your most viable tactic." - Allan Wallace
"Bastiat Free University is not being built to segment and distribute information - BFU already exists as a catalyst to reignite your love of learning." - Allan R. Wallace
"IT has not happened, does not mean IT will not happen. If the fire department told you your untrimmed weeds were a fire hazard - they were not wrong because your house has not yet burned down." - Allan Wallace
"Bureaucracies are inherently unjust. But bureaucrats are like weeds, pull one and tomorrow there will be two. Leave them alone and there will soon be a walled compound with administrative tower buildings and perimeter signs proclaiming that this invaluable sanctuary is off limits - except to more weeds." - Allan R. Wallace
"The risks and rewards of natural enterprise are greater, and of far more value to society, than any illusions of security that bind human cogs to a social machine." - Allan Wallace
"We elect government officials to referee a game; they have come to believe this means they own the teams, the stadiums, and the sport." - Allan Wallace
"We are surrounded by easily perceived barriers that limit our achievement. Most such walls were erected using substantial appearing mists of ignorance. We need to discover and acknowledge these boundaries, and then run through them." - Allan Wallace
"Doing something is not important. Doing the right things at the right times is crucial." - Allan R. Wallace
Allowing abundance is more effective than fighting poverty.
"Our individually independent yet massively interconnected future will favor the prepared yet adaptive mind." - Allan Wallace
Better quotes than mine
Quotations are a glitter of gold beneath the sand. Agree or disagree strongly and it is time to dig deeper - but never let statements of an authority substitute for your own thinking.
"Where liberty dwells, there is my country." - Benjamin Franklin"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable." - Helen Keller
"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill
"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have." - Thomas Jefferson
"When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators." - P.J. O'Rourke
"He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself." - Thomas Paine
"Children who are taught to live happily on a little owe more to their parents' wisdom than children who inherit a lot owe to their parents' care" - William Penn
"Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom." - Albert Einstein
"Individuality is the aim of political liberty. By leaving the citizen as much freedom of action and of being as comports with order and the rights of others, the institutions render him truly a freeman. He is left to pursue his means of happiness in his own manner." - James Fenimore Cooper
"When goods do not cross borders, soldiers will." - Bastiat
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1:25, The Bible
But what more oft, in nations grown corrupt, and by their vices brought to servitude, than to love bondage more than liberty - bondage with ease than strenuous liberty - and to despise, or envy, or suspect, whom God hath of his special favor raised as their deliverer? - John Milton
Let's see, can I limit this to my favorite 500 books?
Oops, Amazon only lets me pick five.
This is pretty random.
From junior high through college I probably read a book a day. I still read a lot. I'll have to come back here regularly and rotate these about. To get a deeper look at literature, check out my Renaissance education lens.
Freedom involves giving everyman his voice, no matter how it may grate on your nerves. Responsibility involves trying to understand those that oppose you, seeking to find your own errors. Morality involves finding truth through diligence -- and having the courage to maintain your allegiance to truth alone.
There is a man I disagree with on many issues and align closely with on others, Gore Vidal. I deeply respect his independence and persistence at presenting what he views as truth. Truth is not found in a ballet box, but by an ongoing personal search -- a dangerous quest embraced by few. In describing an interview with Vidal, Tim Teeman had this to say about him, "...deliberately unfixed allegiances and an enduring belief in an American republic and railing sadness at how that ideal has been corrupted."
"deliberately unfixed allegiances," That is a wonderful summation of an ideal:
Think
don't follow.
The Zurich Axioms
The best general investment and speculation guide I've read, and that would include well over a hundred excellent choices.
Thompson Chain Reference Bible-NIV ( indexed)
Lots of great Bible study helps, and a very nice verse cross referencing system.
Start with the gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John to discover Jesus. Then read the book of Acts to see how the modern church should be acting. I would suggest following those with Psalms and Proverbs to get contextual wisdom and understanding.
66 different books written in different eras with different views that fuse into one coherent story.
The Kingdom of God Is within You
Tolstoy's book about nonviolence. Mahatma Gandhi wrote in his autobiography that this book "overwhelmed me."
Fallon
Classic Louis L'Amour, with over a hundred books to his credit he left quite a legacy. This slick and humorous novel about an unwilling hero strikes a familiar chord.
The Hiding Place
Corrie Ten Boom is a hero who paid a steep price for hiding Jews from Hitler's Fatherland Security forces. Her family was part of the world war two underground railroad that saved so many lives.
Her story of triumph in adversity is a tearful, joyful read.
About My Christian Faith
Christianity is about a relationship - not about rules and formulas.
On the other hand some Atheists think I need to prove God exists. They make the logical error of confusing an absence of proof they will accept with proof of absence. Let them explain to one who knows God well that he does not exist.
I do not have to prove my brother exists because someone has not seen him, talked to him, or doubts I have a brother. I know him and I'm willing to introduce you to my brother if you are interested - he's a good guy.
In the same way I know God. I talk with him, and I ask for his help just as I would from my older brother if he were here.
For me it is simple.
God is smarter than I am. God is wiser than I am. God loves me more than I love myself. I would have to be self-destructive not to do as he suggests, when he suggests - I know it will be the best choice for both my life and the lives of others.
Jesus has given himself to create a unique relationship with you. The deal is on the table, examine it.
There is no formulaic one, three, or five step route to this relationship - there is his way, for you, as an individual. He is waiting, step out and meet him.
If you have questions after examining God's offer - my contact link at top of page is open. Or you can consider this a formal introduction and talk to God yourself.
The Sunrise Of Your Smile
Just like Michael Card, I would dedicate this to my kids, and also to my grandkids.
The light of their smiles is both a memory and a promise.

my sites on the internet
Is it a body of work or an intellectual corpse?
These are about the best picture of Allan R. Wallace you are likely to find. This list will always be a bit out of date.
RETIRED:
More soon. For now I have a great deal to do, many of these sites will be referred to the BFU login and no-charge registration page where there is a news release on what I think our common future holds -- but boy could I be wrong. The BFU Weekly Journal will continue to record the growth of Bastiat Free University and the Netcohort Institute.
Many of these sites are becoming mere historical monuments; particularly of interest only to dedicated netcohorthodox research librarians.
We perceive the industrial age is ending. What comes next is anyone's guess, we will probably all guess wrong. All we know for sure is that we will be surprised.
- A Sovereign Speculator
- My rant blog. I drop stuff in here I wouldn't want to put into my other sites.
Stuff that doesn't seem to fit elsewhere gets stuffed in here too. The archives are full of opinionated claptrap.
enjoy
- Speculation Rules main site
- Lots of good stuff to help you learn how to manage your own finances, and your own life.
- the Speculation Rules Anti-Investment Blog
- Advisers recommend investment because they want to sell you something. What they want is for you to pay them to speculate for you. Use intelligent speculation and cut out all those middlemen that want a cut of your money.
- Bastiat Free University
- Here is a summary of BFU and its philosophy. Take this opportunity to support student's creative and audacious dreams by linking to any page on any of the BFU sites.
Thnx
- Silent Partner Consulting
- One of my earliest sites - and boy is it ugly. It does have some good information. The consulting has been pushed off to the side, but one of the ideas spawned by this group became Bastiat Free University.
- The BFU update blog
- Thoughts and information for everyone.
Particulars for BFU students.
- BFuniv
- A limited update on the old site. These few pages conform more seamlessly with our learning management system.
A good place to send someone that wants to know the basics and then register at BFU.
- Junior Partner Ministry
- Junior Partner Ministries is a church that focuses on missions training and support, I'm a rector for them.
Like all of my sites there is some challenge and controversy. I'm defiantly not lukewarm. This was my first site and it shows.
There is a lot of meat here; prayers have already been said - dig in and eat.
- Small Business Ideas
- I'm posting here less frequently for now, I've found Squidoo a better fit for my style. These niche business archives are full of good ideas if you want to start or grow your own business. My Squidoo lens for starting your own business is a summary of this site.
I've a few other sites that are also more or less on hold, I'll not bother you with them for now.
- becoming a permanent tourist
- This page at the Speculation Rules site is becoming very popular.
Three hundred years ago people seldom traveled more than a few miles from where they were born. Today you have been freed by technology to live where your needs and desires will best be met.
P.T. - "permanent tourists" have been doing this for decades, will it be your time soon?
If life goes from bad to worse where you live, do you have an established escape route to travel?
Investigate the PT lifestyle.

Two notables:
- Complicit Simplicity - The Hackers End Game
An online novel written entirely on Squidoo. Web fiction can be fun. No charge means you get your money's worth. Your time's worth is the question.
- Shirker John Leprechaun
A web serial. Every Friday Shirker John tells another tale of adventure. The second hardest part is getting him to tell the same story, the same way, twice. The hardest part is finding him. Kinda: John Adams, invisible man, in green...

"Please tell me Narcissis, is there someone else?" - his girl friend

"Civilization's development has always been initiated by individuals balancing demands within their intimate groups against personal needs for independence and identity. Social engineers and planners always err at this point. What they endeavor is to convert humankind from small, intimate, flexible tribes to a collective with one mind (their mind of course).
They want to make all the complex human herds and packs of individuals into a single hive of drones. They have always failed, they will always fail; for extraordinary individuals will continue to emerge - imagining and accomplishing exceptional goals - changing everything." - Allan Wallace
