Coyote Series

47 Ursae Majoris is a real star located 46 light years from Earth. The discovery of a planet over two and a half times the size of Jupiter was announced in 1996. It orbits 47 Ursae Majoris at about 200 million miles and is considered to be just outside the habitable zone. It has been designated 47 Uma b. Scientists have speculated that light reflections, infrarad emissions and tidal influences could combine to make moons habitable if they are the right size.

Allen Steele has taken these scientific observations and speculations and created Coyote, a habitable moon of Uma b, which he names Bear. The names of the planet and its moons come from Native American mythology.
