There are feisty independent-woman anthems (''I Do Not Hook Up,'' co-written by Katy Perry and Kara DioGuardi, and the ''Since U Been Gone''-style kiss-off ''Don't Let Me Stop You'') and soaring, impeccably constructed power ballads (''Already Gone,'' ''Save You''). Would our life suck without the handful of throwaway tracks strewn throughout? Hardly. But whatever personal winter Clarkson had to go through these last two years, it's good to have her back.

Clarkson, ever the overachiever, has delivered on all counts. "All I Ever Wanted" is a masterful rapprochement with the mainstream, full of cheerfully ear-snagging tunes, inventive production, exhilarating vocals and enough inherent Kelly-ness to put aside fears that her label bosses implanted blond electrodes in her brain to make her behave.

Clarkson's voice remains one of the most powerful in pop, and on Wanted it flattens everything in its path, blasting through piano ballads, chirpy retrosoul and, on "Whyyawannabringmedown," a kind of AM-radio punk. "I'm not your love monkey, so be takin' back all of the lies you sold," cries Clarkson over a pogo-ing beat.

On January 28, 2009, Billboard announced that All I Ever Wanted's first single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," went from #97 to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making the biggest leap to the top in the chart's history.

"I Do Not Hook Up" and "Long Shot" were originally recorded by Katy Perry for her unreleased album (A) Katy Perry. "Whyyawannabringmedown" and "All I Ever Wanted" were written by the band Aranda. "Save You" is a demo from the now-disbanded Boston group Gone 'Til November, fronted by singer-songwriter Aimèe Proal, who co-wrote the song with Ryan Tedder. "If No One Will Listen" is a cover from Keri Noble's 2004 album Fearless.

Kelly Clarkson co-wrote "Already Gone," "If I Can't Have You" and "Impossible" with Ryan Tedder, "Ready" with Aben Eubanks and Jason Halbert and "I Want You" with Joakim Åhlund.
