A Quote by Buddha

Buddhism is a topic I am passionate about, so I have created a large number of Squidoo lenses on the topic. They cover all kinds of things such as the Olympic Controversy, teachers and topics. This site will highlight them. Please rank this site with the stars above and write any feedback in the Visitors section at the end. Thank you.

Buddhism has been called the most psychological of the world's religions and the most spiritual of the world's psychologies.

"We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
Speak and act with a pure mind
and happiness will follow.
The wind cannot overturn a mountain,
like temptation cannot touch those who are awake,
strong, and humble. Fill yourself with desire.
See the false as false, the true as true.
Look into your heart, and follow your nature.
Know these truths and you will find peace."

An End To Suffering: The Buddha in the World

This review is from: An End to Suffering: The Buddha in the World

"An End to Suffering" combines three books into one. It includes: 1.) the author's autobiographical coming of age amidst the brutalities of contemporary India; 2.) an account of what little is known about Gautama Buddha (the historical Buddha), and how his actual existence only came to light relatively recently (through the odd efforts of various fascinating Western scholars and explorers over the past couple centuries); and 3.) a serious and lucid consideration of the Buddha's practical philosophy, illuminated by comparisons with various ancient and modern philosophers (ranging from Epicurus and Rousseau to Nietzsche and Gandhi). `An End to Suffering' is especially relevant to intellectuals trying to come to terms with our contemporary world's fall into ever-greater chaos and violence (which, according to Mishra, is strikingly similar to the Buddha's India of the 5th Century BC). For example, Mishra's description of the circumstances in which he first saw the 9/11 attack (on a small, blurred black-&-white TV in a Himalayan village) reframe the significance of that event from a perspective unfamiliar to most American readers; his philosophical reflections go far beyond contemporary politics -- as he takes into consideration such things as the Buddha's personal response to the genocide of his times, inflicted on his very own people. If you're looking for a quick E-Z `self-help' fix on Buddhism, then this certainly isn't the book for you. But those who appreciate good writing will find Mishra's style masterfully personable in its presentation of serious subject matter -- bringing it all to life far better than more 'trendy' or academic authors can. This is the ideal `five star' book for earnest readers who understand that the way to deeper understanding can often be more circuitous than direct.

Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion - Movie

The documentary Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion is the story of the history, the culture and the religion of the Tibetan people. It is the story of an oppressed nation fighting for its freedom, fighting for its existence.

A more concise and affecting summation of the Tibetan crisis would be hard to imagine.

The New York Times Review

Each revelation seems more disturbing than the next. But Chinese treatment of Tibetans is only half the heartbreak. The other is the amazing resilience of the Tibetans, who are overwhelmingly Buddhist.

Rinpoches I Have Personally Studied With

Horses Like Lightening - A Newly Released Buddhist Book

Horses like Lightning: A Passage through Mustang is a work of ethnographic non-fiction that charts the years the author spent living in the Himalayan kingdom of Mustang, Nepal. What began as a study abroad adventure for this horse girl from California evolves into an evocative portrait of one of the world's most remote locales. It is also a study of Mustang's horse culture, and the meanings and metaphors revealed through the region's connections to the equine. The book explores connections across cultures, languages, and landscapes, tracing the trajectories of the generation who is inheriting Mustang, as told through the eyes of a young American woman who lived among the people of this unique region in the 1990s.

Excerpts from Horses like Lightning: A Passage through Mustang have appeared in Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, The Explorer's Journal, and several ethnographic anthologies and journals.

The Tibetan Photo Project

Film Maker Education Centers

We need your help create a voice from the Tibetan community in exile through their films and photos.

Up to now, The Tibetan Photo Project has worked on an evolutionary path, beginning with disposable cameras, almost on its own the project has become 2 traveling exhibits, lectures, slideshows, and feature and short films.

Our goals are to establish 3 of The Tibetan Photo Project Film Maker Education Centers in the Tibetan communities in northern and southern India and in Delhi beginning in 2010.

Each center will offer digital broadcast quality movie cameras for checkout by Tibetans and a series of computer editing bays to construct completed films.

The development of new Tibetan voices that can be heard around the world is the greatest challenge facing the Tibetans in their struggle to preserve and record their culture and for their very survival.

Films and photos allow Tibetans to talk to the world across all forms of media, from print to digital. to theater screens.

Once The Tibetan Photo Project Film Maker Education Centers are established, full ownership of The Tibetan Photo Project will be turned over to the Tibetans.

Films and photos create a voice and we also expect the development of films will generate an income stream for the Tibetans from screenings and the production and sale of DVDs.

So please help: Pass our information and Website along to friends http://www.tibetanphotoproject.com and please consider making a donation to these efforts.

Do you believe in reincarnation?

Yes

kizerkid says:

Yes. But reincarnation is just the thing that tell us to know about the forever suffering. It's the famous topic in Buddhist but Not the core.

roysumit says:

Yes and obviously as Lord Buddha already explained in his gospel 'jataka.'

0ctavias0fferings says:

I know I've been here before and I've seen it in children as well, things carried over from a previous life ;-)

qlcoach says:

I have my own views on this: I think we live on this earth to evolve into more spiritual beings. If we mess it up, I then think we keep coming back here until we get it right. That's my own twist. How does it sound?

spirituality says:

absolutely.
