Almost Famous
Almost Famous is a fictionalized account of writer/director Cameron Crowe's own experiences as a teenage rock journalist on the road with The Allman Brothers. With a great cast, interesting characters, and a fantastic soundtrack, Almost Famous is one of my all-time favorite movies.

The Backstory
Almost Famous is a 2000 comedy-drama film written and directed by Cameron Crowe, writer and director of Jerry Maguire. It tells a fictional story of a teenage journalist writing for Creem and Rolling Stone magazines while covering the rock band Stillwater, and his efforts to get his first cover story published. The film is semi-autobiographical, as Crowe himself was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone.
Despite receiving good reviews, the film was a box office bomb. It received four Oscar nominations, one of which led to an award to Crowe for his screenplay. It was also awarded the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Roger Ebert hailed it as the best movie of the year.
The film is based on Crowe's experiences touring with rock bands The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. In a Rolling Stone article, he talks about how he lost his virginity, fell in love, and met his heroes, experiences that are shared by William, the main character in the film.

Quotable Moments
- William: "'That groupie'? She was a Band-Aid! All she did was love your band. And you used her, all of you! You used her and threw her away! She almost died last night while you were with Bob Dylan. You guys, you're always talking about the fans, the fans, the fans; she was your biggest fan, and you threw her away! And if you can't see that, that's your biggest problem. And I love her! I love her!"
- Lester Bangs: "You cannot make friends with the rock stars. That's what's important. If you're a rock journalist - first, you will never get paid much. But you will get free records from the record company. And they'll buy you drinks, you'll meet girls, they'll try to fly you places for free, offer you drugs... I know. It sounds great. But they are not your friends. These are people who want you to write sanctimonious stories about the genius of the rock stars, and they will ruin rock and roll and strangle everything we love about it."
- Penny Lane: "We are not Groupies. We are here because of the music, we inspire the music. We are Band Aids."
- Polexia Aphrodisia: "Let's deflower the kid."
- Lester Bangs: "They make you feel cool. And hey, I met you. You are not cool."
- Penny: "You're too sweet for rock and roll."
William: "Sweet? Where do you get off? Where do you get sweet? I am dark and mysterious, and I am PISSED OFF! I could be very dangerous to all of you! And you should know that about me... I am THE ENEMY!" - Elaine Miller: "Adolescence is a marketing tool."
- Sapphire: "They don't even know what it is to be a fan. Y'know? To truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, so much that it hurts."
- Anita Miller: "Listen to Tommy with a candle burning, and you'll see your entire future."
- Dennis Hope: "If you think that Mick Jagger will still be out there playing rock star at age fifty, well, then, you are sadly, sadly mistaken."
- William, to passed-out Penny: "I know you've heard this before. And I have never said this to anybody, not really--well, nobody who didn't legally have to say it back to me, but--I love you, and I'm about to go where...many men have gone before."
