A Wonderful Beach within Easy Reach of Cebu City

Cebu City is a bustling city in the center of the Philippines. The closest and most beautiful beach to Cebu City is Alona Beach, on Panglao Island in the nearby province of Bohol. Don't get confused by all the names --Alona Beach is just two hours away from Cebu City.

Alona Beach features white sands framed by palm trees and sapphire blue water. It's a very beautiful and relaxing getaway.

How to Get to Alona Beach

You'll need to take a two-hour ferry ride from Pier 4 in Cebu City to Tagbilaran. Any taxi driver will take you to pier 4, which should cost from 50-75 pesos, tops. (Check supercat.com.ph for info on schedules).

Be certain to hold onto your ticket stub from Cebu City to Tagbilaran, because you'll need it to get a discount on the way back.

The Supercat ferry is a fast, clean and very comfortable boat with movies and and a snack bar on board. By the time the movie finishes, you'll be in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

You'll arrive in Tagbilaran, which is the capital of Bohol. Your next step is to get a taxi to Panglao Island. The taxi drivers will ask for 500 pesos, but you should work to bargain that down to 200-250 pesos. If you don't care, and figure you've got money to burn, why not send money to me?

What to Do in Alona Beach

If you're into scuba, this is the place. Snorkeling is also an option. You can arrange scuba and snorkeling trips to the nearby islands of Pamilacan and Balicasag.

If you love fresh fish, and shrimp large enough to kill a dog, you're in business. There are bars, discos, and restaurants offering all sorts of cuisine, including pizza and pasta.

Get a massage on the beach. During the day and at night masseuses roam the beach, and you can get a massage as you lie on the warm sand and gaze at the ocean.

Try the Lambis Lambis

What the $#@?

Lambis Lambis is a like a giant clam in a shell with eyelashes. It's odd to see a shell on a table suddenly move, as though there is a poltergeist at work. In reality, the still live creature inside is stirring and wants to head back to the beach.

Did I say fresh seafood?

Every night there's a candlelit feast on the beach. Don't miss it!

About Fernando_Joe

I was a divorced teacher living in a trailer home in Fresno. I was frustrated in every area of my life until I swore to myself that I'd find an answer or die trying.

In the Philippines I found a slice of paradise and the most beautiful women on earth. I felt like I was living again.
