An alpaca is a gentle creature that is curious about the activities and people nearby. They are fun to watch as they stretch thier necks out towards items or people that they are curious about (see a video on this page of two baby alpacas that are curious about the farm cat).

On this page, you can learn about some alpaca farms, with one featured in more detail and a list of links to other alpaca farm web sites that you can browse to learn more about those. Vote on your favorites to move them up the list.

Strawberry Hill Alpaca Farm in Pennsylvania

Newborn Alpaca in Pasture - Click to see larger image.

The Strawberry Hill Alpaca Farm in Pennsylvania was started on farm land that had previously been a pick your own strawberry farm, thus the name.

It is a peaceful setting for alpacas to graze in the pastures that had once held row upon row of strawberry plants. Once the strawberry business was retired, those fields were eventually turned back into pasture and then replanted with alpaca-friendly plants before the alpaca business went into action.

This farm chose to purchase alpacas of many different colors, so that they could offer alpaca yarn of various colors made from the fleece of those animals. They have white, black, gray, brown, and fawn colored alpacas. See an example of yarn made from their alpacas.

The photo on the right above shows a newborn alpaca, 1 hour old, standing amidst a group of female alpacas, including the newborn's mother. You can click on that photo to go to the page on their site where you can see the larger image.

Video of Crias Curious About a Cat

In this 1 minute video, the farm cat is rolling around in a patch of grass and dirt very close to two alpaca crias that are standing nearby. It is fun to see how curious the alpacas are about the cat. It is also interesting that the cat is so comfortable being around the alpacas.
