From the lens Alpine Flowers of Switzerland.

Did this bouquet of Swiss alpine flowers make you want to wander through an alpine meadow? Or did it give you hay-fever?

With the warm weather lately there should be some great blooms going on. I'll contact some our chalet hosts in the Alpes and find out if they can spot any Alpine flowers.

Amplified from amplify.com - Such a beautiful lens. Thanks for the warning about the poisonous flowers. Beauty can indeed be disconcerting. :)

Beautiful places. You mentioned early to mid- summer for alpine blooms. What calendar time marks the start of summer at that altitude - beginning of June?
  • WordCustard May 12, 2011 @ 1:44 pm | delete
Yes, start of June is pretty much the start of the Summer in the Alps and a good time to see the flowers.
  • CruiseReady Apr 28, 2011 @ 6:22 am | delete

Happy April Fool's Day! The photo grafts of all the flowers are gorgeous. I have Squid liked your lens, added it to my faves, and am leaving you with a Fool's Day Blessing (no April Fool's prank here). This lens has also been added as a featured lens on My Squid Angel Wings blessing lens too. Look for it in the April Fool's Day section for the "Home & Garden" neighborhood.

Oh I'd never get tired of an alpine meadow of flowers. So happy you like them too, especially as it means you don't need to go anywhere near the mountains! ;)
  • JoanneOtt May 25, 2010 @ 3:13 pm | delete
I love flowers and love the mountains too! And nature walks are wonderful too. It's wonderful to talk such walks, they are good for the soul.
  • WordCustard May 26, 2010 @ 5:33 pm | delete
Very true, Joanne. If only we all had such scenery on our doorsteps. Thanks for your visit!
  • MiaBellezza May 21, 2010 @ 7:14 am | delete

I could wander through an alpine meadow. Never been to the Als, but I've seen quite a few of those same flowers elsewhere.
  • WordCustard Apr 26, 2010 @ 12:20 pm | delete
When I researched this one, it was interesting to find that some of the same mountain flowers grow in North America as here in Europe. I bet there are some beautiful mountain meadows in the Rockies too.
  • LKW31 Apr 18, 2010 @ 11:37 am | delete
Swiss alpine flowers are just so preciously beautiful. I bought some Edelweiss seeds in a supermarket when I was there in the Summer, I don't know if they will grow here but it's worth a go! I love your photos, very pretty lens!
  • WordCustard Apr 19, 2010 @ 7:59 am | delete
Thanks for the compliment, Lucy, and best of luck with the Edelweiss seeds.
  • HorseAndPony Mar 9, 2010 @ 7:02 pm | delete
This was beautiful. I am so ready for some flowers. We are going to document some of our new Colorado flowers this year and of course press some. Love this lens.
  • WordCustard Mar 10, 2010 @ 3:18 am | delete
You must get some beautiful flowers there in Colorado, perhaps not so different from the ones on this page? Thanks for visiting.
  • d-artist Mar 1, 2010 @ 1:48 pm | delete
another great lens...5*... you forgot the most important flower, the National Flower of Switzerland is EDELWEISS...oh you must add it to your lens to make it complete....yes?
  • WordCustard Mar 2, 2010 @ 2:12 pm | delete
Ah yes... I will add it in here, though also see the lensroll for a link to Imola's wonderful lens about the Edelweiss (which is why I didn't want to repeat her work too much here).
  • dc64 Feb 8, 2010 @ 9:37 am | delete
The Scheuchzer's Cotton Sedge are my favorites on this page. They look so unusual, I can only imagine how a field of them must look.
  • WordCustard Feb 8, 2010 @ 9:03 am | delete
Yes, they are like balls of cotton wool. As you can see, my camera couldn't focus on them at all.
  • naturegirl7 Feb 1, 2010 @ 4:54 pm | delete
Beautiful and informative lens. It brings back memories of my trip to Europe during my college days. Come back to Naturally Native Squids HQ and add it to a plexo. I will be featuring it soon.
  • WordCustard Feb 2, 2010 @ 9:55 am | delete
Thank you... and I will! Delighted to be part of Naturally Native Squids.

  • OhMe Jan 26, 2010 @ 7:05 am | delete
This is so beautiful. I have never been to the Swiss Alps but have always wanted to go. I love the way you did the colors in your background to match the flowers.

Absolutely breathtaking.....your pictures are gorgeous, and what a beautiful lens to have for your 50th one :) I really loved Switzerland when I went, and you have captured this small piece of it, the flowers way better than even my memories.
  • kimmanleyort Dec 17, 2009 @ 5:50 pm | delete
Yes! I visited the Italian Alps this year and your Zermatt lenses brought back memories. Your photos are gorgeous and I love the way you matched the text boxes with the flower colors. Had no idea that so many were poisonous. Congratulations on #50!
  • prosperity66 Dec 17, 2009 @ 5:36 pm | delete
I love this lens. I love flowers but don't have green fingers so I generally kill mine, except those of the garden as I don't touch them as often as I use to do with those in the inside of the home.
You built a great lens with your Alpes collection! Congratulations on this 50th lens, Nicki! You're a great lensmaster and you'll be a great Giant Squid!
    Dom.
