    Know this, O worthy and diligent lensmaster;
With accomplishment you’ve earned a tryster.
As a token of immense appreciation expressed,
A squid angel leaves this lens heartily blessed.
On a rendering that is sparkling in its own right,
    Propagating an appealing thought well and quite;
    If you were to notice a slender shimmering crust;
From the angel’s wand, it is a spill of stardust.

I've actually only been to the Swiss and French Alps and I traveled through/over them by car along unbelievably narrow roads that had a steep cliff drop on the passenger side (where I sat). I was TERRIFIED the whole time! Well, that is, until we went through the longest tunnel I have ever been through in my life. That was pretty scary too. These pictures represent the lovely parts (when I could open my eyes!!)

Every year, almost, we go at least once in the French alps. last year was Mont-Blanc but it was a sad sight: the glacier has shrunk so much, It was the last year you could go in the ice cave they open on the glacier since the beginning of the 20th century. This year we go to Barcelonnette in the south alps in France.

my favourite hol over the last few years has involved learning to ski in Hopfgarten in Austria. I did an intensive (for me anyway!) 5 days course, skiiing about 5 hours a day. And I was actually good at it, although I did stack it a LOT on the first three days.

But it's the best place I've ever skiid in.

This is a wonderful resource lens about the mountains I like the most in Europe. I was born in Europe (Romania), I started my hiking education in Carpathian Mountains, and came in States (1980). I traveled a lot in Europe. Even from States I go to have a vacation in Europe from time to time. So I was in Alps for skying, usually from Bavaria and from Italy, and for summer hiking from Switzerland... always coming back with a wheel of cheese...
So you make my day with this beautiful lens.
    Thanks so much.
    Regards
    Michey

Love Love Love the Alps and your lens! I live within a three hour drive from the Bavarian and Austrian Alps and try to get there as often as possible. Its hard to decide which season I prefer, the greenery with snow caped mountains and glacial lakes to swim in during the summer or the winter sport mania that goes with the snow. Unfortunately the snow has been a little lacking this year but therefore there are some great deals on packages at http://www.hotel.info. As much as I do enjoy skiing I´ll have to say that swimming in the lakes and cool summer evenings in small towns like Pertisau can´t really be beat. A little bit of summer magic!

Excellent lense, brings me back to some fond memories of trips in the Alps. One memory was a cultural difference in America hikers and climbers wear old beat up clothing and typically wear a bandana around their head. In Bavaria I encountered climbers dressed in traditional lederhosen, which made a bit of a contrast.

I hope you get the chance to. My feet are itching to be back in the Alps again too! Although I must say the security word "cowsnog" is overstating it a little, if it is referring to my appreciation of alpine cows!
  • kajohu Sep 7, 2010 @ 8:38 pm | delete
I'd love to go to the Alps! Your selection of posters and other view of the Alps are great. I had to laugh at the marmot video. We encountered marmots in Glacier National Park, and although we didn't feed them, they clearly wanted to be fed.
  • WordCustard Sep 8, 2010 @ 11:36 am | delete
I bet they did! I'd love to see Glacier National Park, sounds as lovely as the Alps. Thanks for stopping by.

I've been to Europe but it has been a long time. I would love to visit again. Some time in the Alps would be nice.
    Thanks for sharing.

Ah - the Alps! Your lens made me a bit homesick with alp horns and Swiss chocolate and all. Did I say thank you for linking to my Bavarian Breakfast lens, yet? Well, thank you so much! :)
  • WordCustard Jul 10, 2010 @ 1:54 am | delete
You are very welcome, Chef Keem! Great to have such a relevant food lens to link to.

I want a marmot! After looking at all of those gorgeous Alpine photos, you grabbed my heart, with the marmot. Exquisite lens! Congratulations on the purple star - you earned it!
  • WordCustard Apr 17, 2010 @ 8:07 am | delete

Truly a purple star lens, Dianne! All my life I have wanted to go to the Alps. We are planning a trip for our 45th anniversary (Mediterranian cruise, trip to Switzerland, England and Ireland.) We will be gone from home about 2 months. I'm sure it will be a vacation of a lifetime. Since seeing The Sound of Music .. that is one place that has been on my mind. Thanks for the beautiful lens about the Swiss Alps! 5*s and fav.
  • WordCustard Apr 4, 2010 @ 6:46 am | delete
Enjoy your trip, LaraineRose! I appreciate the kind words (I'm not 'Dianne' but hey, as long as you liked the lens) :)
  • theraggededge Apr 2, 2010 @ 9:43 am | delete
Lovely! You have brought the Alps to life in this lens. I bet you like "Swiss Railway Journeys" on TV - my hubby can watch it for hours.
  • WordCustard Apr 2, 2010 @ 10:02 am | delete
Oh yes.. it's one of my favourite places to take a train journey. Thanks for your kind comment.
  • ohcaroline Mar 31, 2010 @ 9:13 am | delete
I have been to the Swiss Alps and French Alps. They are breathtaking. One of my favorite memories was the farmers taking their cattle down from the higher elevatons when winter approached. The lead cow was beautifully adorned with flowers. It was quite a sight. I really enjoyed this lens. I will lensroll, fave, and 5*.
  • WordCustard Mar 31, 2010 @ 12:52 pm | delete

I've never visited the Alps and sadly probably never will but after reading your lens I wish I could. The Alps has always held a certain fascination for me since I was a child. I think reading the childrens book Heidi got me started. Thanks for this wonderful lens.
  • WordCustard Mar 25, 2010 @ 4:04 pm | delete
Thank you for your kind words, oztoo. Sending some of that wonderful mountain air and a bunch of alpine flowers (not the endangered ones... mustn't pick those) your way!
  • JoyfulPamela Mar 25, 2010 @ 12:21 pm | delete
The Alps are incredible! I had the privileged years ago to do a musical tour in Europe. We performed in several cities along the Alps. I truly think the Alps are some of the most amazing places that God created in the world! :)

No question that I love this one..I haven´t been in the Alps very often, but one time I experienced the "Waldrausch" (the bloom of wild berries) and I will never forget that.

What a stunning lens! I loved Switzerland. As beautiful as the Alps appear in photos, you just have to see them in person to appreciate their size and grandeur. I hope to get back for another visit someday.

Spent a few weeks touring the alps about 5 years ago. It was one of my favorite vacations ever. The scenery is amazing. I would also highly recommend Zermatt and a ride to the Top of Europe (Jungfraujoch). Love this lens!!!
  • WordCustard Feb 1, 2010 @ 10:29 am | delete
I agree, Zermatt is a true mountain lover's paradise! I'm glad this brought back some wonderful memories.

  • KathyMcGraw Jan 21, 2010 @ 12:06 pm | delete
Oh Nicki this is so beautiful! So many memories were flashing through my head as I read this: my son skiing in the Bavarian Alps, me falling and sliding butt first down the Australian Alps, wonderful food at an outdoor cafe and my Coke glass that said "Trink Coca-Cola". I can visualize the buildings with the flower boxes and the whole picturesque scenery again just by reading this lens.
*Blessed* by a grateful Angel for this wonderful trip back to the Alps!
  • WordCustard Jan 21, 2010 @ 2:13 pm | delete

Wow! I'm wowed! Each time you create a page on the Alps, I feel the same sensation! You really love this area of Europe and it shows on your pages!
I also love the posters you selected, they're attractive and even make me - the one who hates mountains with a passion - want to go there! So, what could I do...?
Bless this fantastic piece of work, of course!
  • WordCustard Jan 18, 2010 @ 7:50 am | delete
Well, if I won even a mountain-hater over, I take that as a compliment indeed! :) Thank you too for the angel blessing.
  • prosperity66 Jan 19, 2010 @ 2:15 am | delete
You're welcome my dear. All I can say is that you really master the subject, you clearly demonstrate how much you love this area and one can only follow you and love it too!
