These have such style - I love old travel posters and luggage labels. Hadn't seen most of these before, so thanks for posting them up. Lovely.

I loved this collection of retro art the first time, and I loved it no less this time.

Do you smell the smoke of a burn out blessing? This lens is featured at http://www.squidoo.com/chaotic-good

A Squid Angel with an eye for design! Thank you, though credit goes to the artists (sadly all long-dead, I expect) who created these works of art.

Oh, these are all fabulous! Everything looks so "clean!" Now I have a question: Did women really snow ski in skirts? That one is just too awesome!
  • WordCustard Sep 27, 2010 @ 3:46 am | delete
You would be amazed what women did in skirts. Even climbed mountains. And I mean big scary mountains that needed ropes and ice axes and a full day of climbing.

These old posters were the best. The advertisements back then were pieces of artwork, not like today (though maybe they'll be saying the same thing in 50 years). It just seems like they put a lot more thought and personal talent into the concept -- so much so that people hang them in their homes. I don't know if we can say the same for today's advertisements. Excellent lens!

Yes, you can see how much work went into designing these posters when they had only visual channels to work with. Some are really quite iconic. I also love the way they reveal the different painting styles of the time, and something of the passions and fashions too! Thanks for commenting. :)

I love vintage advertising. It just feels more human than a lot of what we get today. Great work!

Thanks Addy. I love these artistic interpretations that captured the excitement of travel

This style of retro art for marketing has always intrigued me. There is a lot of work that goes into catching the eye and holding it long enough.

The lens was great and I agree with Kim, interesting facts throughout.

Smell the smoke of a burn-out pseudo blessing?
  • WordCustard Jan 26, 2010 @ 6:21 am | delete
It's interesting too to see how the idea of what was considered eye-catching changed over the decades.

Appreciate the visit and a pseudo blessing from you is one I will be delighted to accept.

What a great idea for a lens. I really enjoyed all of them and the role of the railways way back then was interesting. 5*
