Al's Hamburger Shop - a Green Bay Landmark
Al's is a Green Bay landmark that "must visit" for tourist.
Al's Hamburger Shop has been around since 1934. A narrow building with a counter on one side of the room and about ten bar stools. Across from the counter (within a few steps from the bar stools), four booths are located by the other wall. The decor is what one would expect from a diner of the 1930's. The prices aren't 1930's, but very reasonable.

These hamburgers are no diet food. Just good old fashion, juicy, melt in your mouth, good tasting and yes...greasy hamburgers. Old fashion size hamburgers that stick with you long after you leave. We always sit on the bar stools by the counter when we go to Al's. Most of the time we order hamburgers with plenty of grilled onions and pickles, occasionally I will order a cheeseburger. If this is your first time to Al's Hamburger Shop, make sure that you grab plenty of napkins.
Nothing better to top this off with a thick chocolate shake which is mixed in a silver cylinder. Then given to you to pour into your glass. But be careful, these are very thick shakes.
Al's is legendary in Green Bay for their corned beef hash. I haven't had the chance to try it, but I am told that it is made with large hunks of corned beef and it is to die for.
The Sign At Al's Hamburger Shop

At night the "Eat" part of the sign lights up a bright neon red. Easily to be seen from the distance.

A Small Place Stuck in the Middle

Nothing fancy and if you blink you might miss it. But Al's is a part of history and the best (in my opinion) hamburger place to eat in the heart of Downtown Green Bay.
This little diner is also called "Greasy Al's." You could also call it a "greasy spoon", or "hole-in-the-wall." The very first time visiting Al's, I had pictured a cook standing at the counter, waiting to take your order with food all over his uniform, a cigarette hanging down from his face and a large tattoo on his arm with the words "Mom"
Of course that isn't the case. He has "Dad" on his arm.

This is Not Burger King

In this narrow diner there is an old fashion radio, photos of years gone by and an old cash register. Plastered behind the counter are signs like this one.
