Band Biography
The History of Alter Bridge
The name "Alter Bridge" comes from a bridge in Tremonti's childhood, located on the controversial Alter Road, at the intersection of Korte, which forms the border between the city of Detroit, Michigan and the city of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. This was a boundary which Tremonti, as a child, was strictly forbidden to cross. That line of abrupt demarcation also represents a sign of enigma.
There is more of a 1970s classic rock feel to the band when compared with Creed. Many of the tracks start off with a guitar introduction, leading in the rest of the band similarly to the previous Creed songs.
However, Kennedy has a much higher and wider vocal range as a tenor compared to baritone Scott Stapp.
The guitars, especially the solos, use significantly more wah than in Creed. The solos are almost entirely played on the treble pick-up. This seems to give the guitar much more presence in the music and provides better audibility of the picking style and tonal nuances of the high register notes.
Tremonti said of the first record that he would finally get to show his talent, and many of the songs indeed have solos or complicated sections.
In April 2006, Alter Bridge announced that they had terminated their contract with Wind-Up Records, securing the rights to much of their studio and live catalogue.
Alter Bridge is currently working on their sophomore album, with a working title of "Alter Bridge II", that is tentatively slated for release in the fall of 2007.
Some tentative song titles for the new album are: Buried Alive, Come to Life, Ties That Bind, Wayward One, and Brand New Start. These new songs have been previewed at live shows in 2006 and 2007.
