Some of these auction and marketplace sites are free to list items at, but most of the auction sites charge fees for extras, or a fee if your item sells.

This list may not be totally up to date because it was created a couple years ago when I was looking for alternatives to eBay as they charge too many fees, like for listing items even when the item doesn't sell. I try to update this list from time to time but have been busy with other projects and have not been auctioning. Some have mentioned other alternative auction sites in the comments but I have not had the chance to check all of those out yet.

Hopefully these auction sites that don't charge fees to LIST auctions will catch on! Most of these sites do charge a final value fee if the item sells or a fee to list autos and real estate. I am a fan of not paying anything if the item doesn't sell!
Plunderhere.com
Pirates are in style, so Plunderhere.com makes a great name for an online auction site. It's free to list all you want here-forever they say! You only pay for attention grabbing extras. They also say that the following are always free: "GALLERY PHOTO, Second Category, Reserve and Buy-It-Now!"
Bidville.com
Bidville has over 1 million listings, and does charge a final value fee if your auction sells. They also charge "enhancement fees" to make your auctions bold, featured, etc.
ebid.net
When you go to ebid.net, you have to pick a country, then it forwards you to the online auction site for your location. It's free to list auctions, and has a reasonable final value fee, or you can buy a gold subscription where you get an online store and pay no final value fees at all.

(I guess I'll list it under the free to list because you don't have to pay "listing fees.")

    Hi Good to see someone else talking about alternative auction sites its nice to know that you do not have to pay high fees to sell online i gave you 5 stars for the lens

    I am a member of Oztion the second biggest auction site in Australia and it has no listing fees to list so if you do not sell it it wont cost you. My wife and I Have a vShop on Oztion were we sell my wife's handcrafted jewellery at just $5.00 a mouth it fantastic and i recommend Oztion to all Australians and New zealanders. I created a lens that's is all about Oztion for all to comment about their experience with Oztion and many many members have left comments so far it is 37 positive to one negative. Lots have left predictions and some have submitted there listing links and vShop link

    Another free alternative is usiff.com, always free listings. Never a final value fee.

    Manion's List it Yourself website is a good one. They specialize in militaria and historic collectibles, but all collectibles are welcome http://www.listityourselfauctions.com/.

    Basic listings are FREE and items can be re-ran indefinitely for FREE as well. The service also offers personal support - that's right you can actually call them up and speak with someone IN PERSON!

    The new site was set up by longtime militaria and historic collectibles auction house Manion's International, which operates on a consignment basis (www.manions.com). This is another Internet auction option, where you send in the items and their staff does all the work and sends the consignor a check.

    I found a great new site LDBidz.com they offer no fees except a very low fvf which they just went even lower yesterday. It clean and the staff are wonderful and always willing to help with anything you need
