Alternative Online auction websites

Ranked #1,850 in Internet, #115,468 overall

less fees, please!

Some of these auction and marketplace sites are free to list items at, but most of the auction sites charge fees for extras, or a fee if your item sells.

This list may not be totally up to date because it was created a couple years ago when I was looking for alternatives to eBay as they charge too many fees, like for listing items even when the item doesn't sell. I try to update this list from time to time but have been busy with other projects and have not been auctioning. Some have mentioned other alternative auction sites in the comments but I have not had the chance to check all of those out yet.

Online auction sites where it's FREE to LIST items

there may be final value fees or other fees though!

Hopefully these auction sites that don't charge fees to LIST auctions will catch on! Most of these sites do charge a final value fee if the item sells or a fee to list autos and real estate. I am a fan of not paying anything if the item doesn't sell!
Plunderhere.com
Pirates are in style, so Plunderhere.com makes a great name for an online auction site. It's free to list all you want here-forever they say! You only pay for attention grabbing extras. They also say that the following are always free: "GALLERY PHOTO, Second Category, Reserve and Buy-It-Now!"
Bidville.com
Bidville has over 1 million listings, and does charge a final value fee if your auction sells. They also charge "enhancement fees" to make your auctions bold, featured, etc.
ebid.net
When you go to ebid.net, you have to pick a country, then it forwards you to the online auction site for your location. It's free to list auctions, and has a reasonable final value fee, or you can buy a gold subscription where you get an online store and pay no final value fees at all.
onlineauction.com
From the site "Registered Users can bid and buy items all they want, paying no fees to OnlineAuction.com.
Sellers are charged only $8.00 per month for Membership on OnlineAuction.com that includes UNLIMITED LISTINGS!"
(I guess I'll list it under the free to list because you don't have to pay "listing fees.")

Great info, thanks. It annoys me how much of a rip-off ebay is... Makes it harder for someone just getting started making an income from ebay if you're having to pay out just to list your items etc.

They let you off if you start an auction at less than £1 but my items cost a fair bit more than that to produce so that's useless to me.

The convoluted set of rules and fees before you even get any feedback about what will sell............ better stop there before I get carried away. Think I got out of bed in a bad mood and hating ebay today :)

I'm off to check out the sites mentioned - thanks again.

Good page. I really need to look at more than eBay, but I usually don't. Thanks for the information.

Ebay is still the 800 pound gorilla of the online auction sites, and you should use it, if you like their present policies and fees. But, there are real reasons to go to other alternative auction sites. Have you ever listed a vintage red rider BB gun, or an antique ivory letter opener on Ebay? You soon discover that the listing is terminated, you are still charged all the fees for the ended auction, and are warned that they are watching you and if you repeat listing another banned item you will be suspended. Ealtbay.com is an alternative auction site that caters to those legal to own, and sell, items that are banned on Ebay. Ealtbay encourages listing these non-Ebay items. It allows you to accept payment in any legal form of payment, including cash check, money order, other online payment options, MC, visa, and even paypal -the options are up to the seller -not controlled by the auction site. Also, Ealtbay allows negative, neutral, and positive feedback for buyers, they do not always deserve positive feedback. All together this site does offer a real alternative to the 800# gorilla.
